 , you know it is the right thing to do

If it's on the Road then REBEL all the way baby ! haha

But if you have that Mk1 or even a Mk2, then i may swan over in the my Mk1.

Decisions, Decisions !

Keep us updated on your Fiesta progress PLEASE :D

of cause, i'm really up for a XR2 not a 1.1 Popular mind :P

Posted

Hmm. Can you wait until September? I'm quite possibly taking an empty trailer to Czech, a few beer tokens in exchange for bringing you an XR2 would be useful!

issit still possible to get a Mk2 festa for under 200 notes

Fiesta Scrapper it is so

My drive is a weird "L" shape, so you can't see behind that is the Mk1.

And left out of the drive is Old Man's Audi ... which i think is starting to p*ss him off

Mk3 shall be gone soon (i hope)

In rural areas where folk don't change their cars until they break, then yes, often.

BCA's last general sale at the Benton site saw a couple of MK2s, one rough pop plus, '86 on a 'D' and a fairly nice Ghia, same year, £50 and £225 respectively.

Both buyers were probably people who'd tipped up from Blackbushe in 4x4s as they fetch the premium up this end, to roll back down in "collectibles" as some folk further South are starting to see Festers.

ummm i'd like a Mk2 Ghia Diesel (as they didnt do a XR2 diesel) but really has to be diesel 8)

Rebel is Stripped inside

I have realised the two nuts i tried to undo are actually welded (FAIL !) .. i couldn't see under mud , that's my story anyway.

So instead i have tried to remove the bolts from above and they are FOOOKIN solid.

Saturday the 5th is still my deadline

Grind the heads off inside the front floor wells, you'll probably end up scrapping the seat belt loops unless you're extra careful, but then you'll be able to lift the shell with the remains of each bolt still attached to the outriggers. If you do destroy the loops that attach the lap belts to the floor, welding some large washers to the ends of some new bolts will sort things for you.

The ones that usually cause the most trouble, swearing, bloodshed, etc. are the ones along the rear chassis legs on saloons, at least an estate chassis has the false floor for the spare wheel and those, those you can get at from underneath. Think of it more in terms of how lucky you are that you didn't buy a saloon.

Don't forget also to unbolt the steering box, the driver's side battery tray, the front crossmember (the one that's hidden in front of the radiator), the front suspension turret bolts (4 of those, with big washers to spread the load on the inner wings) and remove the pedals from their stems 'cos there's NOTHING more annoying than having a couple of mates round to help with the body lift, only to find that the floor won't come up past the pedals.

All hydraulics are attached to the chassis so there are no brake lines to undo before removal, when the kitreg used to have its own workshop/storage shed out by Bridge O' Weir, we would typically drive the car in at 9 of a Morning, and drive it out on its exchange chassis at Dinner time. :D

edited: Those Hank nuts are only tacked on, they usually shear without much effort. & we used to eat Dinners really, really late....

Slips with angle grinder and cuts Rebel clean in half!

What is the plan on the 5th? I can probably make it down as a)I'll be putting car in for MOT by then. When I've finally sanded out the mammoth ripples in my second arch painting.

Posted

I have not slipped with a grinder as of yet

Plan for the 5th is ...

Afew of you strong people help me lift the Rebel body from the Chassis

Eat biscuits & drink tea (or coffee)

And i take many pictures of your cars

Possibly factor in having a laugh or too aswell

All i need to work out is the best time for everyone.

So:

Watanabe

Cavette

Pete-M

Station

Warren

State a time and we can go from there :D

If anyone is busy that day , then that aint a problem.

If you need my address just PM me.

As a rough guess i think 12 - to - 1-ish would be a good time.

Posted

12-1 tricky for me chief as pick my lad up from his work about 12.30-13.00hrs.

Before that (i.e maybe 09.30-11.45) or a bit after should be ok, assuming SWMBO hasn't found me something shit to do of course!

Posted

Before 1pm is difficult for me as I have Claim jr until 12.30. Any time after that is ok until 5pm.

Hope I can help!

Posted

Thanks fella's :D

Just see what time is best for ..

Pete

Jon

Dave

Then go from there

Posted

After 1 would suit me better as well.

Oh, and I'm possibly volunteering one of my lunatic Czech mates to help.

Posted

Okay i just txt Jon and he said 2 o'clock should be perfect.

And that seems to tally with everyone else

So 2 o'clock please (If you are earlier or later, it really doesn't matter too much)

I will PM everyone my address now

Thanks again for the help guys.

Really appreciate it !

Just wish i could pay you all to say "thanks :D "

Experience has shown five to be the optimum number of people to employ for this task.

Three to lift the shell, since there are only really three places where it can be held safely and two to lie underneath and watch for any bits that weren't slackened off before the start of the job.

A kitten register member has a body trestle that enables single-handed body removal and refitting on rebel, fox and kitten; its design is no secret though, think pasting table but stronger, adjustable for height and without the car boot sale tat on top.

I'd be there to help out but I'm washing my hair that day...... :(

Posted

You have no hair ? :(

As for laying the body down, i think i am going to put it temporarily on a big blue tarp that i have.

And infact i need to remove the boot (thanks for reminding me) , as the bolts are rusted so thinly, it is shocking !!

Posted

Do you need the population of a small Hebridean island to help you remove the boot?

Posted

 No thanks Milf'

I would remove the body myself, but it is surprisingly heavy.

Thanks anyway .. (i think ?)

Posted

Sorry to keep bringing this up.

But Warren just asked me about more news on this,

So guessing others may not have seen it either.

2Pm Tomorrow

If you get lost or cannot remember my address, txt me.

Sorry guys (For popping it up again)

Thanks

Edit :

Some pictures as compensation

Got it off after much heaving/cracking of fibre glass. Body was roughly 10 times heavier than the metal chassis. There's a lot there, but it weighed an -absolute tonne-, 'it'll be light once the chassis is off'. lol

What to put in?

Posted

Why do i look like i'm doing a poo ?

Shame we didn't get any pictures of mucho grinding

Pete

Jon

Mark

Dave

Guys, i really can't thank you enough.

Okay so i threw out some shite biscuits, and threw you some pop (or what ever that stuff was that Pete drank)

But if you ever need a hand, then throw me a txt.

Jon stayed and had Chips, fish cakes and peas (Next time you can all stay  )

Ooh and two dodgy looking guys in a white Reno Kangoo pulled up, and shat bricks when i asked them what they wanted

Kangoo men = "Are you selling your fiesta ?"

Me = "which one ?"

Kangoo men = "The black one"

Me= "No, it's getting weighed in, can't be bothered with the trouble, plus it is rotten it needs new arches, sills an chassis legs."

Kangoo men = "So how much do you want for it ?"

Me = "It's not for sale mate"

Kangoo men = "ooh okay"

Mongs

I shall update with pictures soon !

Thanks again guys, hope you all had a safe journey home

Nope, you're right, I have no hair. But I'd find some to wash before I'd do that again! I was one of the under-the-car blokes on the last one we did, and the trestles broke. Fortunately, on that occasion, the highest part of the rear seat pan left enough room for my head when said shell crashed to the ground around me. No injuries caused that day, but the other four all found it really funny.

Well done on the job though, and here a tip for next time:

Take the doors off or leave them closed, there's a lot of metal in those buggers so one of two things can happen.

Leaving them on adds stiffness to the shell and allows lifting under the sills without risk of cracking to the floor edges, but requires more bodies to do the job.

Taking them off reduces the weight from around 400 to under 330KGs, hence my suggestion about three people to do the actual lifting.

I'm not seeing the steering column there, is this because I'm an old bugger with rubbish eyesight, or did you remove it before lifting the shell?
