Took a photo of the display in the Zafira yesterday afternoon. Temperature actually read 53 degrees, but had dropped by the time I got my phone out. Just noticed what was playing on radio.................

I'm thinking that's heat sink from.the engine, not the real outside temp. I saw 42 on the display of the wife's Astra, but quickly dropped to 38, once on the move.

Never mind that most outside temp displays on cars are adjustable anyway 😂

The outside temperature gauge on my Volvo seems pretty accurate (no readings as it's a non runner at the moment).

Even if it is engine heat soak you are being exposed to that heat no?

At 5pm on Tuesday, I got in the Skoda to come home, it had been sat since 8am.

The coolant guage was not on it's stop, and the range starts at 50°.

Dashboard guage read 38°. The power of the sun will heat large bits of metal even through the bonnet and sound deadening...

Car drove like crap for the first few miles until the under bonnet temperature stabilised... I'm guessing hot fuel lines, turbo pipes, etc, etc

I don't think the heat is an issue, there's tens of millions of cars running around in the rest of the world where average daily temps in summer are equal to or above the spike we had for a day, I certainly didn't notice loads of broken down cars in Arizona when I was there, or in the Sierra Nevada in Spain where we lived for a while, or Dubai or Turkey.

51 degrees in that pic above? Absolutely no chance, its been parked in the sun, my mum always used to say 'it's been 48 degrees here today' until I pointed out to her that her thermometer was in direct sunlight, when I moved it into the shade the temps suddenly dropped by 10 degrees.

Only if you are standing right infront of the radiator / engine

I think even Vauxhall wouldn't be stupid enough to put the outside temp sensor there...

Oh yes they are !

Most are in the front lower grille but some have started putting them in a tit on the lower edge of the mirror.

That's where the one in the Duster is. I keep thinking it's a drop of water.

The highest ours got was 39°C. The mirrors are black plastic so gather heat like nobody's business.

Regardless of the temperature readings, driving round on Monday and Tuesday was actually quite pleasant, with the aircon on. Similar to the first lockdown, our schools have finished anyway and I think a lot of folk just stayed at home, and some businesses and activities had closed in anticipation. Nice until you got out the car!
