Check for chuffing on the injector seals, the 1.4 is a sod for that.

I've seen a few like that during a recent used car search (I gave up in the end because everything seemed so over priced/shit). The giveaway IME is a stench in the cabin and a Thomas the tank engine soundtrack whilst running, if neither of those apply you're probably fine.

I may be completely making this up (I probably am) but IIRC there's some sort of dance involving removing engine mounts etc to change a starter motor on that engine?

Aside from those points, well bought. With the cheap tax and mega MPG I can see why these make an attractive prospect. Also, hat doffed for seeing off the car that wasn't as described- I honestly recon lots of folk would have ended up accepting it because of a sense of obligation and/or avoiding the social awkwardness of the situation. Good call!

Is that the same engine as the diesel C2?

I believe it’s the same yeah. 1.4 TDCI/HDI, 70bhp

You're completely right. It's that or the subframe off. Probably the worst positioning ever.

Alternator is also in a  stupid place too. It can only just be removed via the gaping OSF headlight gap on a Fusion, I expect it's a complete pita on a Fiesta due to less room.

I believe it's the same old 1.4 Duratorq (HDi) fitted to the old Fusions and MK6 Fiestas, at least

I know the alternator was a right PITA to replace on the C2.  I had to remove the A/C compressor in the end to be able to get it out.

Luckily Amber is loving the one we went for. Fitted some genuine Ford roof bars today as she goes kayaking often so they’re a must!

Annoyingly I think we’re going to have to contact the dealer the car came from as on very first start of the day there’s a message that flashes up for literally a split second (ie so quick we had to video it to pause it and read it) saying oil pressure low - it runs fine and no warning lights on so hopefully just a sensor but I also know what these are like for the oil pick up blocking so want to get it checked.

Sad react for the oil light

That wants sorting quickly!

Yeah I’ll ring the chap tomorrow. I’m 99.9% sure it’s nothing as it’s literally a real split second flash up then it’s gone, there’s nothing in the ‘vehicle messages’ section, nothing on diagnostics, no other warning lights and it runs perfectly. Doesn’t do it any other time other than from a stone cold start up.. but yeah at the same time it needs sorting!

This, get it tended to without delay, possibly a blocked feed for the turbo, relatively straightforward job to strip out but needs doing ASAP.

Won’t show on diagnostics that. Either way I’d park it up till it’s sorted.

R.e aforementioned leaking injectors - it can cause the oil to wash with diesel, increase the carbon content which can block up guazes. An oil + filter change as well as cleaning up all the feed pipes wouldn't go amiss.

I wouldn't expect a dodgy oil pressure switch to play up for only a split second, it's more like a partial restriction that's making it struggle to build up pressure immediately. It'd probably only get worse.

It might well be that the underlying issue has already been seen to but they didn't clean the oil pickup at the time

Maiden voyage for the roof bars today, success.

Its being dropped off on Sunday back where we got it for the oil pressure warning to be looked at.

Dropped the Fiesta off today and told him the most likely cause being the pick up being partially gunked up etc - he seemed to be aware of that issue on these so said he’ll sort it tomorrow or Tuesday.

Courtesy car is a Mk6 golf 1.6 TDI with broken fucking air con on the hottest week in years 😂

Collecting the Fiesta tomorrow

He said it’s sorted, no warning on the dash now -  I’ll believe it when I see it from a cold start as he said the issue was:

“It was the oil filter, has a rubber insert on the bottom it wasn't seated properly in the hole in the casing, light out and no buzzer now, fitted a new filter.”

Guess it’s possible but seems too easy.

Make sure the light comes on and then goes out.....   (and isn't covered up by some electrical tape)

It’s not a dash light, it’s a warning message on the stereo screen that flashes on so can’t be hidden

This is how quick it bongs and shows the message then goes again:

Really is a minefield buying used - especially older cars. The trade seem to be offering a lot of dross that a few years ago they wouldn't have entertained. They can't complain when people are paying for me more then cars are worth then bringing them back when there are issues.

There's a reason people want brand new.

The green paint on the fiesta reminds me of "antifreeze' - some hot wheels red lines were painted this colour.

Hmm, I can kind of believe that. Time will tell!

Well, lets just say I didn't immediately think "utter bullshit" :)

She collected it at 10am, left for work about 4 and it didn’t do it so fingers crossed. She said it would have done it before after being left that long.. will see after a couple of days!

The cynic in me would say check he hasn't bridged the oil pressure switch 😀

And it’s back again.. text dealer and he replied saying bring it back next week and he’ll remove the sump and clean the pickup etc.

Can’t fault him tbh, he’s tried the simple fix and straight away this time has offered to do the harder one. Let’s hope that sorts it.

Inner cynic was 50% correct then :)

He clearly hasn't bridged the oil pressure switch... but the problem remained!

But yes, sounds like he's being sound over it!

I mean it’s a very common problem on those, it surprises me he hasn’t checked the very obvious weak point on those engines, should really be bread and butter for any mechanic that. But credit to him for fixing it. I’d be inclined to not only drop the sump but replace the turbo feed and injector seals at some point as a preventative measure.

Amber dropped it off today so he can drop the sump tomorrow

typically the warning only came on the once and hasn’t done it at all in the last week, I told her to not mention that and let them do it anyway - at least if it’s done, it’s one less thing to worry about.

Shes still over the moon with it, definitely feels a step up from the Bini.

We pick up ours tomorrow, quite looking forward to it.
