Rear view mirror GLUE??

So any car with the terrible design of having your mirror stuck on the windscreen which my wife managed to knock off yesterday 🙄

I know from previous experience that they are a pain in the arse to stick back on.

So I am wondering what others have used and had success with in the way of glues?? Or something else?

There’s the specific pads to fit them, make sure the glass is degreased first. Don’t use glue.

My old 325 estate - same thing. 

No glue will work long term...... I went to a windscreen place and begged to buy what they use - the guy was cool and gave me 3 small tabs/pads as freebies.

Cleaning the screen and making sure it was going to work was the main hassle. 2nd time was the charm for me. I then managed to crack the screen right up the centre about 2months later of course!

Go ask Autoglass or similar for a favour if possible

3M do sticky pads (not the foam ones) which once stuck on are very difficult to remove. They're the only thing which survived holding my dash cam in the middle of summer.

Loctite 319 is the stuff to use - available in Halfords.

Used that on a Disco with what seemed good effect. (ie never dropped off whilst I owned car)

Fish tank glass sealant.

 

I tried everything to stick a rear view on something. Until my neighbour asked what I was doing one day.

”here, try this….I stick fish tanks together with it”

 

it worked.

 

I can’t remember what it is….but it’s good bloody stuff.

But the method of fitting is important. You either need arms of steel and apply pressure for at least two minutes, or do what I did and wedge a bar into place once it's stuck on to apply some force overnight.

clean the glass then clean it again, get pad hot on one side- stick to mirror, heat other side then sick to car
