They did a 5.0v8 Granada called the Perana out is SA. That Affordable classics have one but they wanted 10 grand for it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure the Perana was a V8 Carpi, not a Granada.

1978 Datsun 120Y

Dustbin lid wheel trimzzz! 8)8)8)

My school friend's dad had one of these in the late 1980s in dark blue...I thought it was shit back then but I was an utter car snob back then. I have since seen the error of my ways.

'Austin Allegro Princess'

'Q: Hi, I may be wrong, but I think this is an Austin Allegro Vanden Plas, isn't it? Cheers, Steve

A: hello smcf1970, yes your right, vanden plas should of been mentioned in the add, but it's doing alright, kjs.'

0 bids. Yep, doing tremendously well.

Judging by the ad it's a 1973 with a 1500 engine, i'm guessing but then so is everyome else who looks at it because the window licker has not given much away.

With phrases like "I have never seen it run" and "good project" i'm thinking he has two adverts in one...

Union keys are easy to obtain from autojumbles and other places too.

I would like him to buy cars for me*

ucking wat

^^No you were right the first time. And you don't have to be a snob to recognize shit when it stinks. It's shit.

You seem to be on the wrong forum. Please try another one.

I recall a lot of those 120Ys from my yoof. I didn't think much of them, but am now beginning to come around. Those wheelcovers look like inside-out steel drums.

Let's all chillout a little perhaps? Opinions are like arseholes etc etc. Back in Australia 120y is a synonym for crap. It wouldn't be my choice, but I can understand why someone would like it.

Personally I don't like British cars at all except for a few off cars, others on here lover them. I'm allowed to have my opinion and they're entitled to theirs. Why not just agree to disagree?

Just seems a bit odd to describe a prime piece of Autoshite as shit s'all. He expressed an opinion. I did likewise. We generally see joy where others see outright misery. I don't think the 120Y is a good car, but I'd still own one given half a chance.

Why not? I do! How very dare you, everyone should like them, it should be the law!

I think it should also be law that everyone has to own at least 2 british cars......:lol::D:D:D

ok?

Me too, but not in *that* colour.

At the risk of sounding like a teenager, Whateverrrrr. You can read what you like into anything, even if your conclusion is utterly wrong and slightly preposterous.

Back on topic. Have another slice of lurid-coloured J-tin. I really rather like this.

So do i, especially at this time of year. Trouble is it's the 1.6 and it's probably less economical than a Disco....despite what the seller says it will do to the gallon, i reckon 22/24 would be the best you (or i ) could hope for.

I'm not so sure OHV. I reckon high 20s is do-able if you don't thrash the living wotsits out of it. Pretty sure Scooters had one - maybe he can report mpg findings? Petrol's cheaper than diesel too.

That, and no self-respecting XY chromosomic human with tackle swinging would ever be seen in one as passenger much less as owner.... :)

:D

Can i ask, with a little joviality wtf is wrong? :) are you p155ed or has someone just taken anout £500 from you? :D

Maybe it's not my place to ask or even comment but maybe it would be best if you had a lie down?

That would be interesting, i don't have a winter car yet and i have seen these often go (seemingly) very reasonably priced.

Furthermore, did you know the original Mini and the MINI are separated by capitalist motives. That's right! Read it in a blog. "Acceptable cars" are designed and manufactured by Mother Teresa types like Louis Renault or Andre Citroen, who were never interested in making dirty lousy money. No sir. The advance of capitalism coincided with the decline of "good journalism" in the magazine trade. It never existed beforehand, and certainly not with French automakers. They were humanitarians who tolerated fewer showers and unkempt hair from their employees. Huh?

I can see why people dislike the new Mini, the old one was all about accesible motoring and the new one takes the looks of the old one and turns it into a really quite expensive (for what it is) fashion accessory.

Of course this all probably seems a bit rich coming from someone who owns a new 500. But I'll say this about the 500, if I was to spec a Mini up exactly the same, I think the difference in cost ends up being something ridiculous like 5k. The Mini is almost certainly a better car on balance, but it's not worth as much more as they charge you.

Again each to her/his own. If someone likes a Mini and want to spend their money on it then who am I to argue?

See I'm fed up with an idiot who got banned from another forum coming here and making insane conclusions about my life with no basis for them at all. I seriously worry about you.

The MINI is a style thing like no other, the marketing is great. The resale value is great too, i know my wife has a 5 year old one and the car we bought actually retained over 50% of it's new value, not many will do that.

I like the 500 but the MINI feels more solid and it goes quite well and with a 1.6 it seems happy enough at 70 odd on the motorway, so i'm told. I am also reliably informed that it is easy to get the basic cars to go quite well. It is possible so i am told, if you mess around a little with it to get the MINI One to 125 bhp, an increase of 35 bhp for about £500.

New 500 looks ace. A white Abarath one would be a hoot I reckon.

THIS IS THE EBAY THREAD. IT'S FOR POSTING LINKS OF CRAP OLD CARS FOUND ON EBAY ONLY...

I really starting to get bored of this forum these days, anyone know of any other worth going on now?.

Yes.

Until you try and take a corner. Then all you get is a flurry of wheelspin and \ or understeer (on the faster bends) for your trouble. I'll wait for FD to turn up and tell me I can't drive for shit.

And now on to other business.

Norm, as much as I respect you - you really need to stop derailing threads like this. That last post but one did read rather like a personal attack on Ian which I thought was a bit unwarranted.

Completely agree. I really like my 500, but the suspension is shit, properly shit. Sometimes going over those little ripples @ 40mph going into a 40mph zone the rear wheels lose contact with the ground. It's a bit better on the Abarth, but anyone who's driven a decent hot hatch always comments on how a proper French hot hatch is better.

Nice to see a non-BNW one fiatdaft! :)

So do I. I drove a 500 Abarth from Bauer Millet in Manchester on a test run. It was great in a straight line, but was all over the place when you tried to corner. I don't see the point of throwing 140 odd brake at the chassis if it can't take it without having a conniption fit every time you try to get a move on.

Seemed really good VFM, but I wasn't going to drop 14 large on a car that ran wide on most corners. Way better inside than a new Mini (then again, that isn't hard), and great on the motorway - but not for me. Still nice to have tried one though.

And now I'll stop veering off topic again.

I saw a silver new 500 the other day. It was actually a refreshing change seeing as 90% of them appear to be white
