The 1800 came out a good few years earlier though. It would also have been a handy extra USP versus it's rivals at the time.

It would have been better if they'd made it an estate and expanded the range. It could have been a British take on the DS Safari and a replacement for the Oxford Traveller and Cambridge Countryman.

But the normal saloon was intended as a Cambridge/Oxford replacement but BMC decided to carry on selling those alongside the 1800 for another seven years.
