Did posh people have personalised reg numbers back then*, or was this Ford issued with 5LPE? @LightBulbFun

*I'm guessing this pic was taken in the '60's judging by it's 'feel'.

The door and bonnet won't shut, the lights and indicators are randomly on, it's missing it's wiper blade and the windscreen is distorted. Passed.

back then they would of been known as cherished numbers, since back then if someone had a "personal plate" on their car it was usually a family matter or something that genuine meaning to the owner, ie the number plate would be off of the very first car the family ever owned, great-grandad's Austin 7 or something such, its where the term Cherished transfer comes from

todays "personalised reg" phenomenon only really started to take off in the 1980's and has only sadly gotten worse since

5LPE is July 1959 issue,  tho that looks more like a 1960's ford to me, so in this particular case it may well be a cherished/personal mark?

I do actually know a couple of people who have number plates that have been in their families for 2 or 3 generations.

yeah its rare but you do still see em from time to time, those I do enjoy seeing, especially  because often times they are on something proper autoshite, where the plate is worth way more then the car, but they keep the plate because it means more to them then its monetary value

a while back @Lord Sterling posted a spot of a gold battered early K11 Nisan Micra with with a 2 letter 1 digit plate on it, and it was great, the Micra was/is worth what £500? and the plate gawd knows what something like that would go for these days... (although I see in the here and now GN1 is now sadly on a Tesla, Boooo)
