Not sure if I would have driven it to England, but would like you to do so and post about the trip.

Looks like I'll be going out to our Oslo office in May. How easy/hard is it to buy a classic in Norway? I know everything is super expensive! Are classics generally expensive too?

A lot is expensive in Norway and I'm not sure what it is like for foreigners to buy cars here in terms of registration and export. but this can one find out. Can I ask what you are looking for? And budget? For can see if I find something interesting.

Anything that's a bit different from what you can get in the UK! Pre-90s really.

Budget? Dunno but maybe £4k max, but a quick look through Norwegian car ads on finn.no suggests that doesn't get too much.

Slightly over budget at 4400 pounds but what about a 1972 Peugeot J7F?

I did have a poke around and not too much excited me. Opel Kadett seem cheap though and potentially a bit of fun.

I'd have to be driving it back to Bristol, so would need to make sure it mostly worked as a car!

Spring comes a little later here than in the UK so will assume that in a month there will be more older cars for sale here.

But what about something other than a car? 1980 Scania 81 runs and drives well but cab needs welding but the frame is good 4318 pounds.

At the speeds that's capable of, and current fuel prices, it would be a long and expensive drive home...  😅

Now I have not driven any of these but would assume that it can comfortably go 80 kmh so not so bad. And there will soon be a ferry from Kristiansand Norway to the Netherlands that will cut down on driving time so this is entirely possible, I think.

Just out of curiosity, how much is diesel per litre there at the moment?  Here it peaked at £1.90 (a bit over €2) though it's dropped back a bit now. Not looking forward to re-filling the Insignia, was £90 last time, and that was at £1.55/litre!

Not sure about diesel but petrol was 21 kroner (1.85 pounds) per liter when I filled up yesterday.

That's more like what I'd be after! Presumably it is road legal?

Is buying a car in Norway easy? I.e. pay the money for it and drive off with the paperwork providing you have insurance sorted?

The Peugeot is road legal. For those of us who live in Norway, we take the owner change online between buyer and seller but do not know what it will be like with someone who is not a Norwegian citizen. There is also something about the registration plates having to be returned after the car has been exported. I have tried to find information about this but have not found much. But it must be possible to achieve when others have done so.

If you want to try and talk to someone about this, I'll attach some phone numbers. And hopefully some of these are speaking English.

Statens Vegvesen phone number are those that have with vehicle registration +4722073000

Norwegian Customs' telephone number they are probably needed when exporting vehicles  +4722860312

Statens Vegvesen they had the opportunity to contact them by email but they have unfortunately ended it.

I feel like I want to save it but the last thing I need is another car.

The other one does not have any engine pictures but is happy to see that these do not have a timing belt.

After checking parts for these, I think I understand why spare parts are almost impossible to get unfortunately.

And this must be this years find 1938 Strømmen Dodge these were Dodge cars that were assembled in Strømmen mechanical in Norway. If I remember correctly, these were 7 seats and were intended for Taxi use and were very popular as Taxi here. Few have survived and this one will unfortunately never get on the road again as it lacks paperwork it also needs full restoration. 430 pounds.

And finally, a vehicle that was among Norway's bestsellers for decades. Toyota Hiace from 1987 with real 4x4 with high and low gearing and 2.4 diesel which was the most popular version. It needs welding but they always do it even when fairly new. 2561 pounds and hope someone saves this as almost all of these ended up in Africa.
