JJ0063’s current steed - Life of an impulsive car owner -[Cant keep away from N47]

Hopefully the last piece of the puzzle! Crank case breather pipe had a split in it and looked to be the cause of an intermittent EML. Revs dropped when the brake was pumped so was suggesting a vacuum leak somewhere. Pipe replaced, codes cleared and revs no longer drop.

Right back to the 5 series and the drivetrain error I’ve had from day 1.

I’ve done loads of chasing on this and have come down to two potential things it could be.

DPF is knackered but not showing a DPF warning

Shit remap.

Spoke to the previous owner and have come to an agreement. He’s paid for a stainless DPF delete pipe (£195) and I will fit it and have a new remap done. I think he’s been fair as he could have told me to shove it, sold as seen m8.

I know the delete can be an MOT issue but I can get round that during my ownership and I’ll keep the original DPF, clean it and store it for when I sell the car.

When I fit the downpipe I’m also going to whip the electronic actuator off the turbo and check that as some people have reported on these N47’s that the gear inside can wear so it slips and the wastegate then doesn’t function right.

Anyway, people prefer pics. Shiny new downpipe is here ready to fit.

Waiting for you to be flamed about removing a dpf in 3 2 1....

Genuinely couldn’t care less 😂 fully expect it though. There are people doing a lot worse on this forum 👀

It’s a normal MOT but they blink a bit longer when checking the exhaust, that’s all.

If I had a car with a DPF delete my tester would ask me ‘and when was this fitted?’

I would reply ‘in a weeks time of course’

He’d say ‘correct answer’ and sort my ticket.

that said none of the diesels I’ve owned have ever had a DPF.

My van is a class 7 and not all mot centres can mot them. My local garage can't but services it, mot preps it and takes it to another garage for the actual test. My van had the dpf removed over a year ago but the garage he takes it to turns a blind aye at mot time. I bumped into him in aldi the other week and told me I'm fucked as the mot centre had been busted.Fuck what price is a new dpf? Don't worry mate. My camper is class seven and dpf less. I'll sort something for the next mot.

Not sure why he doesn't do the test and upgrade his garage to class 7? Is it fairy involved?

Hello Mate, can’t remember if this has had the swirl flap delete, if not well worth it. I put a new inlet manifold from darkside fitted with a delete kit and the transformation is phenomenal, below is the old one:

If you don't live in a town or city then I don't see a problem - all the DPF does is take your townie shit and dump it out in the countryside. I've often wondered what the air quality is like someplace 30 miles up the M1 from London where all the regens start?

Having said that, newish tractors come with DPFs - they're fun* during a regen when they rev their bollocks off......

Yeah luckily it’s already had the EGR and swirl flap delete when it had the timing chain done. Mad how clogged up everything gets with all the emissions bollocks on!

Booked the MOT for the 1st Oct on the 5 series as it’s due 1st Nov and this way I can get it MOT’d before the DPF ‘solution’ just to be on the safe side.

Gave it a quick clean today.

Dropped this off for its MOT last night.

My MOT guy rings me just now and goes “you’ve booked it a day too early to preserve the existing date” then says “shall i still do it today, doesn’t really matter to you does it you’ll sell it in 3 months”

He knows me well 😂

I fecked up in exactly the same way last time I got the van tested - why is it that I can get an HGV test done anytime after 1st of August for a 30th September deadline but the car/van tests are one month (minus a day)?
Poxy annoying.

You'll have to sell the Beemer to make room for your new Tesla, shirley ? ;-)

Didn’t think that was terrible until I looked at the price of a tyre, it’s got Pilot Sport 5’s on it, £180+ a corner 😢

Not keen on mismatched tyres but I might have to consider something cheaper!

£190 for a matching Pilot Sport 5, or £80 odd on a budget. What shall I do?

Feel like I ought to spend the money but I also don’t have loads of spare cash.

spend out if keeping..................... budget if outing it soon.........

I’d spend on it. It’s coming into winter, it’s RWD, and it’s your daily. Do you really want a cheap tyre on the back?

Do it nicely.

If you're going to sell it, matching tyres tells an awful lot about a car.  £110 on a car like this is peanuts.

Surely plenty of choice in between Michelins and Ling Longs JJ. I'm running am all Hankook fleet at the minute. Probs wouldn't have unmatched tires on the same axle mind but then I'm wierd.

Booked. PS5 4pm tomorrow.

Also remembered the seller of the car gave me a new set of rear pads so I’ll fit those at the weekend and clean up the brake hose ends to get rid of those advisories.

Done, that’s the most I’ve ever spent on a tyre.

He reckons someone had a puncture and driven on it flat as it had a plug and the inside wall was very split.

Pads done

Flexis I’ve wire brushed, painted black then put some spray grease on

Hopefully end up with just the prop donut advisory although even that feels harsh, it’s got the tiniest perish to it

Either my paint and grease of the brake lines wasn’t good enough or he didn’t look that far on the retest 😂
