Hmmm, I dunno, I'm all in favour of not replacing something till it's totally knackered but when you figure in the running costs of an older car, even if you only spend a couple of hundred a year on welding and other routine stuff on a 35 year old car, that could buy you a 'disposable' car such as the universally unloved Mk5 Scrote. And just throw it away come MoT time.I think to run a 70s car as your daily you need to be a bit of a petrolhead, and appreciate the novelty value somewhat.

I can see my folks getting that was in a few years... they seem competely oblivious to the fact that their car is now 16 years old and ergo more than double it's projected life expectancy. As long as it keeps rolling, doesn't cost much t fix/MoT every year, it makes sense.

I have to take a bit from column A and column B. The owner of the car mentioned to me that his grown up children constantly pressure him to sell it - bearing in mind he was 70+ and clearly had issues with mobility. His mind was pretty sharp though, but driving something like this in this kind of weather with those kind of nutters on those New forest roads takes a certain amount of balls. His reasoning was that the car goes through the MOT every year and its dead reliable, which means a lot to some people. My Toyota is currently off the road (voluntarily) simply due to my safety and its preservation. Mother Datsuncherry is quite happy to scoot around in a 14 year old Volvo. I'm not sure exactly whether her concerns are enviromental (car scrapping is not exactly the best way for enviromental logic) or whether she just couldn't give a hoot about the motoring fads that have passed her by.

The E3 BMW was so much better than the heap of shit E23 7 Series that followed it. They look pretty and aggressive at the same time. That looks like it could be an injected 3.0Si, 200 bhp and 130+. Proper car.

 

105 Alfas can look a bit wank, but the Junior with two headlamps and steels with dog dish hubcaps looks fine. That's a very pretty car from when Alfa made proper cars, not the shit they make now.

Those are top level spots alright. I thought the CF died out on about a B-reg certainly the Midi had been going a while by the time E-reg came along.That escortis a great find! If I had one of those i'd never lave it in a supermarket car park, in fact i'd never go anywhere in it at all due to paranoia.

Amazing that the Subaru pick up is pure mid 70s design and yet is on a 1990 plate!Adore the shiteyness of the Alto, and the rarity of a pink Bond Bug, and the Herald Coupe is very rare indeed, on the A-plate. When I was a kid I used to be amazed at seeing an original A-plate car, such was their rarity in the late 70s/early 80s, but I seem to see more now than I did back then?
