Just an idea at the moment:

Mate of mine had a Mk5 GL back in 2019/20. Slowly but surely, he came across and installed everything required to make it a perfect GhiaX, finally fitting the badge once it was complete!

Would love to see it but, of course, there was never a Cortina X

How big do you think the sideboard is?😆

If you mean there was no factory-speccable GhiaX, then I think we're on the same page. I was under the impression that as part of Ford's huge catalogues of accessory stuff that you could buy an Executive pack to go on top of a normal Cortina Ghia?

No, you could have a Granada Ghia X or have a Cortina Mk5 L, GL or Ghia and add the S pack, which also had option of sport seats.

Huh, that's funny then! Whatever he was doing to it, he christened it with an X badge.

As of today, this fine steed is now officially mine:

FSH and 114k miles, best £2400 I’ve ever spent I reckon. Needs the mother of all cleans next, hasn’t been done since last December.

Less of a smile was insuring it. Cost me just over £500 in the end, then taxed it and left the office for the last time.

Liked for scoring the cheap car - not having to leave the office for the last time😢

Thanks Dan, was not fun and I’ve forgotten my mug! Will go back and get it next week, as also forgot to return my key.

Just waiting to see if my insurers accept my proof of NCD. Colleague has already been told no, even though his van, which he’s now bought, was only ever used by him. We ended up adding me to his policy to get the price down. My car was my allocated company car and very rarely driven by anyone else and each vehicle had a separate policy, so hoping the NCD will be accepted.

I’ve deliberately not cleaned the car to make it look less valuable. All the quotes I got valued it at twice what I’ve paid. It will be cleaned now but I might wait until after my Scotland trip next week.

That's a lovely looking bit of Skoda! I wasn't too sold on that shape Superb at the time, but it's really grown on me now.

I’ve always thought it a good looking machine. The hatchback always looked a bit gawky from the rear, in my opinion. A good buy regardless, I think.

The hatch-loon was pretty cool from a design perspective, in terms of the way you could split between hatch and saloon modes, but beyond that I always preferred the estate.

I hope your Superb continues to live up to the name.

Thanks Ryan, I completely agree with you! How long it stays with me, remains to be seen. Might upgrade, might not🤔

Superb. Keep hold of any keys.

Heading back up to Renfrewshire tomorrow, complete with an Ozone generator for @somewhatfoolish.

As always, give us a toot if you see us on A34, M40, M42, M6,M74,M8. Goodness me I hate this journey.

Not a bad run today to be honest, makes a change! Only slow bit was M8 between Glasgow and Paisley but that’s because it was nearly 5pm.

When we left, with a full tank, range was 600. 215 miles later, it was 570. The Superb loves the motorway🙂

I do like the sealed bids method of sale in Scotland. 👍

It does make everyone take the process seriously. You can’t just put your house on the market, accept an offer then pull out at the last minute fucking everyone up because you can’t find a house in the right catchment area for your brats.

Turns out the buyer was lying. They don’t have the cash, as their house is still in the sale process. FFS! Let’s see what happens next.

Big thanks to @AnnoyingPentium for taking the trouble to pop in and say hi today. Great to meet and chat with you Ryan, thanks again.

Was also great to meet @somewhatfoolish this afternoon, hope the ozone generator does what you need it to do, good luck.

Was lovely to meet you too, @Wibble. I'm glad you liked the Duster as well - I'm still not sure if I do! :D

Going through another crate of old photos, school reports and cards at Mum and Dad’s, when we came across an envelope of telegrams sent when they got married. Two stood out as Dad’s USAF mates having a laugh:IMG_4924.jpeg.91df5ce9f277e2382496e757e93448f1.jpeg

IMG_4931.jpeg.0b60acb882df2effd820ce9ea37d4919.jpegWe’ll lay another at Christmas for Mum. We are nearly done now in clearing their house. Has been sad but good memories too.

Heading home tomorrow. Has been a hard last night, knowing I’ll never be in this house again. Anyway, we’ve done what had to be done and it’s done.

We’ll visit the grave tomorrow on our way home. God bless you all.

After our emotional departure this morning, trip home was 8.5 hours. All was fine until we hit the M42, which was bumper to bumper crawl, same again when we hit the A34. Anyway, 1025 miles this trip, no idea when I’ll be back.

Glad your getting everything sorted the other end👍

Never easy, but hold on to the good memories.

With any luck next year you might have a better time of it all, you seem to have a real run of crap with everything lately!

Cheers Dan. Certainly feels that way but thankfully yes, we have an abundance of good memories.

Evening all, in an effort to try to lighten the mood at home, I’ve booked a hotel for us all in Great Yarmouth from next Monday. Turns out there’s a fireworks display with street performers Wednesday evening, so should be good.

Can anyone recommend a good fish and chip shop there? Don’t want to eat in the Beafeater every night. Also might try a local Indian restaurant. Wiblet Junior is quite excited🙂

Just reminiscing about past cars and can’t find a single photo of my old Jaguar. Had to resort to google street view to prove its existence:IMG_4953.jpeg.cfde9290e06fe55b4631206796a1bc64.jpeg
