Any half decent battery supplier will sell the normal round pole clamp converty things so you can use a 'normal' battery instead.

ill have a look later - its a bloody old one though, could be the original!Just forgot all about the terminal connections being different on these old beasts as I dont think ive ever changed a battery before on all the old Fords ive owned!.

I was going to say go for the converters. Makes like much easier....

I've never seen that type of battery terminal before, how do the connectors work?

The cables have a ring type terminal and are bolted through holes in the posts. They were standard on Fords until the mid 1990s.

What Richard says flat type lugs were especially used on Fords, theres three types of battery lug as far as I know, die-cast helmet type which has a screw in the top, smmt which is the clamp type and flat lug.

Didnt know they were used up until 1995. Suppose I could pop down the scrappy and see if they have one there, usually get all my batteries from there as they take the best ones off and sell them for about a tenner.saying that I may as well get a new one and then I wont have to worry about it again hopefully!

I found a brand new Bosch one of these when I moved into my lockup years ago. I always intended to use it one day, but it never, ever got touched and I think my dad disposed of it. TBH, I'd prefer this type of battery, those ring connectors are a massive pain in the arse to get on in even moderate sized engine bays.

The batteries you get (or used to) at Kwik-Fit were 2 in 1. round normal posts, but if you levered them off, they had the Ford square posts underneath. I'm sure they were Exide batteries.

My '96 Escort has that type of battery I got mine from Exhausts Unlimited was a Motorquip battery IIRC .I keep forgetting I own it as it's been on my mother's drive for three years. It's only when I get a tax reminder that I think "Hmm,must get that car back on the road" and it still sits there.
