You could always try making me an offer on my Micra..... I'ts local (in a league of gentlemen kind of way)

My boss is after a cheap Micra. He's got the readies and has been looking for one for ages. Bear in mind he's unbelievably tight and if he offers you 25p, just tell him to do one.

This is a 1.3 with 84k for £395

Show your homeys how you roll in this 1.3 sports coupe.

The owner of this sounds like a bit of a numpty, "I don't know what 16v means" but it could be a safe bet for £450?.

Or you could be daft and get this Audi 100 2.0 Turbo Diesel for £395.

Thanks trigger but the insurance quotes on them are majorly stupid, exspecially that Audi.

Sorry mate, thanks for the help tho !

can you weld??

Yes Louise2cv i can weld (self tought !)

Is the 2cv practical for a daily driver to college and back tho ?

or would it give me trouble ?

And think the people at college may abuse it to be honest (Yes lovely people at college i know)

I'm okay with somethin to fix up or somethin really old with some troubles

i would love a Imp or somethin alike.

:D

I tried a sample quote on that 'comparethemeerkat' site, which is usually very cheap for me, for an 18 year old living in the Wirral, just passed his test, insuring a 999cc Fiat Panda. I just realised I captured the screen featuring the TP quotes, but fully comp with a hefty excess is no cheaper.

 Depressing.

Thanks Milford

And depressing aint the word !!!

i have had to refuse buying many a car on occasions due to the insurance its bleeming crazy

i get maximum £100 off if i a named driver on my dads insurance and he has been driving 19 years all NCD.

I'm just overwhelmed with the help

Thanks guys

Just hope i find somethin 1.0, at a push 1.1

I know the quote for a 1.2 corsa was just touching £2,000

Which tbh is too much, so i'm hoping somethin less as £1,000 a year works out at like £84 a month, which i guess i could do.

Again THANK YOU all !

Those insurance quotes are fucking criminal. The only thing I can recommend is try as many websites etc as you can; comparethemarket.com, gocompare, dirtymilfs.com*, moneysupermarket, Direct Line....you know the score. It's a pain in the arse having to keep typing all your shit in, but if it saves you £100, it's worth it.*Sorry, i meant Sheila's Wheels - try putting your mum in as 1st driver, yourself as named.....they're under the impression that birds are safer....which we all know is not the case...they can't reverse.....(Sorry Louise2cv and Fredtransit) just kidding....

Those insurance quotes are fucking criminal.

Tell me about it !Thats why ALOT of people my age and slightly older go around with no insuranceOr do the dodgy Sign up for insurance, pay the first month, get the certificate off the insurance and then "JIB IT OFF" (yes thats the technical word) - So when they get stopped by the old boys in blue they show a valid looking certificate Surprisingly this can work quite well (So i have been told)But personally i'm not into that, rather be 100% legal and try push the cost of insurance down for myself with some NCD / NCB what ever its called. As for putting the old lady on the insurance - She doesn't drive, so that wont change anythin' ... will it ?Thanks for the reply

Had the same problem this time last year with my 18 year old lad, I live in Manchester.....tried loads of insurance places.. even tried the old banger on classic car insurance but you have to be over 21 for most of them...ended up with a 1ltr micra me as named driver and still paid £2800 for the year..coming up to renewal time now and every time it snows or gets icey I pray constantly that me lado is driving carefully!!!!I think its criminal that kids are allowed to spend all that money to learn how to drive and can't get insurance at a sensible price. it was expensive when I first passed 30 years ago but it was doable. If you do the pass plus you save 20% which is a good incentive but me lado could not wait and wanted to just get straight out there.. he only works part time and is naffed off he has to tip it up each month for housekeeping and insurance..Good luck with your search.

Thanks for the kind words :)And i know how he feels with having tight money,Its nearly impossible to find a job were i live so am unemployed at the moment and get £30 from college at maximum (which i cant depend upon as the stupid fat women at the office f*ck up alot and say "ooh no you aint getting it this week, plus i have to get food and drink out of that, so leaves me with £5 at the end of the week !) - if only insurance was £20 a month !!

Shite advert but worth a phone call?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1997-RENAULT-MEGA ... 3efb84806d

This doesn't look bad but needs to be a little bit cheaper...

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1994-VAUXHALL-COR ... 2557ed0cfc

Another reasonable looking car but it's too much money. If you could chip it down a fair bit it wouldn't be too bad..

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1996-VAUXHALL-AST ... 2304911aba

Cheap-ish Fiat?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FIAT-PUNTO-1-2-WH ... 3ca8d1140d

I'll keep looking anyhow and see if owt truns up.

What college are you at by the way?

Is a 2CV suitable for going to college? They were built for it!I lobbed an engine in mine on Monday and drove it 25 miles to the office this morning. They're great. Sure, they need the odd bit of tinkering but then you can say that about most older cars. It's all part of the fun.Cheap to insure but HUGE fun!

I've never been able to understand why THIRD PARTY ONLY - legal minimum, just to cover damage you might do to others - should cost any more where ever you live - yet I'm fairly sure it will. You're not covered for theft on that so the post code shouldn't matter. The only explanation would appear to be that insurance companies are out to rip folk off? Still - might be worth getting some quotes for third party only - if it's available at all these days.

Posted

The quotes I screen-capped are third party, it's often the case that fully comp cover with an excess is cheaper than third party only insurance, it doesn't make any sense.

Posted

Inexplicably, in my experience third party usually ends up costing more than third party fire and theft. No idea why!

Posted

Maybe because it's only the scum of the earth who go looking for TPO/TPFT quotes?

I've just had a thought.....(call an ambulance)A few years ago the Co-op/CIS used to class light commercials ie fiesta/escort vans in Group one if they were used for your own(ly) car.Don't know if that is still the case, but got to be worth a punt?Myself and bro had an ex post office Escort Dizzle and it cost peanuts to insure....

Now thats what i like about these , try doing that with say an Audi Quattro and see how far you get , Dolly , Did you see The Day of the triffids remake , They used a really nice red and white dolly on there

Five door cars are quite often cheaper to insure than three doors. The lad I got my daily off was only about 18 and the insurance was shed loads cheaper on a five door Astra 1.6 then a three door Saxo 1.1.2CV sounds a fantastic suggestion by the way, cheap to run and a right laugh to drive plus stand out from the crowd.

Vans up to 1600cc used to be in the old Group 1 but not every company will insure a van for private use so you can end up paying more anyway.

Can you really get van insurance "cheap" like that???When I were a lad, insuring a van cost ALOT more than the equivalent car, even if only for personal use & limited miles. I was well p/o'd by the situation, as I really wanted an old escort to clatter about in. When you are 17/18 and live with your mum the attraction of an old van is pretty obvious. GR8 4 BIRD-BOFFING(PS> It still costs me more to insure a van than a car :angry face: )

Posted

Insurance is utterly messed up in the UK, you have to drive for about 25 years before you get anything approaching a reasonable insurance quote.

Posted

Yeah, when will insurance companies learn that charging three times the cost of a car for minimal insurance is just asking for people to risk driving without?

Wow thanks Cavette !i go to Birenhead Sixth Form College - its crap !i wanted to go to 12 quays / wirral met to do mechanics but i needed a grade c GCSE in maths, so had to go sixth form !i'm a very competent mechanic i just need the certificates to say i can do it, because no garage wants to take on an 18 year old who sounds like he is lying and has no way of prooving how good he is./rant over sorry  Once again thanks to everyone Overwhelming response !
Posted

No worries. I asked about the college because my lad is at Capenhurst doing mechanics and wondered if you were at the same place.Oddly enough just fixed up an interview for him tomorrow at a garage on the edge of The Wirral.Anyhow if you go on eBay motors, then cars, then advanced search, then enter your postcode and set the search to (for example) within 15 miles and 'newly listed' you might find something. That's pretty much how I came across the ones above and they were the cheapest when I did the search.Failing that try a forum dedicated to a certain make or model and trawl through the classifieds.

At it's money already in my opinion but lots of tax and test and reasonable enough if you can replace the clutch cable...

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VAUXHALL-CORSA-4- ... 19b8da1add

Short MOT/tax and needs a few jobs...

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1998-ROVER-414-S- ... 4a9d6ef6ac

*£80 if you could do the MOT work!...

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1995-ROVER-100-KE ... 439c5c6cb5

*WHOOSH! Cheap AND local. I bet you'd score this cheap if you rang him up. Insurance should be peanuts, it's quite retro-ish and they're a cracking little car...

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1986-NISSAN-MICRA ... 1e59c8cf37

Micra makes a lot of sense as local and should be cheap. Ok it's got a short MOT but you could run it round until test expires and if it fails on loads you could weigh it in or sell it on 'as is'. His phone number is on the listing, could be worth giving him a bell, arranging viewing and take some cash up with you?

Posted

I'd recommend a 1.1 Pug 205. Still reasonably good looking cars, and they will trounce your mates new corsas etc in the traffic light grand prix :D

Posted

I once managed to get a qoute for a Metro 1.0 City at £500, which is the cheapest one I have ever had, but my mum was the 'main driver'.

Posted

AAAAAAAAHHHH !!i hate life That rover has sold :(Me and my dad worked out that i could afford it if i got a job paying atleast £5 and working for 7.2 hours BOOOH :(

Posted

It's not like they're an uncommon car.Have you tried loads of insurance companies? It's a bit scary that the cheapest quote for a fugging 1.4 litre Rover is over £3k.

Posted

Ring the insurance companies up, apparently its the best way to get cheap quotes, although I havent done so myself so cant say.

Posted

Yeah they differ £30 - £80 I even tried "Insurance for younger drivers" and used afew of them, which surprisingly was more expensive. It pays to shop around. Thanks Again Everyone :)I may Email Alad (on here) and see if he has a half decent Imp going for sale that i can repair and get through an MOT:edit ..... Who is it that has alot of Imp's and singer chamois's ? (i cant remember his name)
