An ad with some decent cars in it for a change.....was'nt there some complaints about it....? The girl sitting in the cafe has nice boobs though.....Lets all whisper harshly.....AUTO EMOTICON

It's not a Camry, it might be a Mazda 929 but it's hard to make out the details like the rear side window glass.

Posted

I reckon it's a Toyota Cressida. Can't find a pic of one that's -quite- right yet thought...

Posted

i think you are right thanks pog, i was sure it was a toyota but the camry/ cressida were very similar in spec and i think some had the same engine/running gear.the front indicator lenses and wheeltrims were my first guess at toyota and then the rear lights.

Posted

I reckon the one at the beginning is a Cressida, the other may be a Camry...

After a bit of googling, I think it's an MX63 model. This is the only one I could find with the same front end arrangement though:

This "face" is deffo the one we got in the UK, US & JDM (y0!) versions got a 4-lamp front that looked much sleeker.

I have a feeling it was this model that featured in a "U-pull-it OMG Scrappage outrage" thread somewhere...

looked at it again, one is silver, one is white, the first is a cressida, the second is a camry.can i put that to the jury for a decision?:D

Posted

I think theyre both Cressidas but different generations of em. The silver one is like the one Pog showed, the white one is a model we never got in the UK, but theres quite a few of em in the states and some lad on R-R called 'billy five' was doing one up in the 'tyte JDM drift y0' style.

we did get them, deffo camry. there is a toyota dealer not far from where i live and he sold loads of them. they seemed to last quite well.

Yeah you might be right actually Bo11o, most of these MX73 models exhibit the right sort of side moulding and are sufficiently angular.

Almost all of the ones pictured on 'teh internetz' are well jazzy "DRFT" type affairs that are probably nearly impossible to drive...

i may be wrong but there were camry saloon and estates that were around the 1986 on a d plate that had the 2.2 and i think 3.0 that were front wheel drive that were very similar to that white car, i am off now to find some photos, if anyone can find them - please post them here.

I love the way these advertisers go to such extreme lengths to disguise the 'extras' cars in their ads, presumably not to upset the manufacturers of these inferior models, (which happen to be far more desirable of course.) Even seasoned autoshiters are having trouble identifying them. The best one for me was LV insurance, I think, who presumably thought no one would recognise or be upset by their vandalising an Austin Apache. My first thought was, yes, I am upset and where the hell did you find it from? Or was it just computer trickery.

Posted

The LV advert, like many of them was filmed in Seeth EEfrika, where the Apache was build & sold. They are often filmed in South Africa as the local environment is RHD, but the climate allows for nice settings with good weather & lighting conditions.

Problem is that the Carina/Corona/Cressida/Camry/Caramac badges were applied to the same body shapes in different markets so you all could be right! :P

Posted

I hate to say that, but you are not right, Mash!

The Carina/Corona-range is very difficult, you are absolutely right there, but a Cressida is a Cressida and ONLY a Cressida, the same with the Camry. Camrys with windowframes are always Camrys, everywhere, Camrys with frameless windows are Vistas. But when it comes to Cressidas and Camrys, there is no different name on the same car.

Click on "History" and then on the Mark II/Cressida/Crown-Lineup. You should find infos there to proof my arguments.
