I love those little model cars in the clear boxes which are mounted on a black base with the name of the car written on it - the detailing is usually pretty good. Gotta start building my collection of these I think...As for other bargains: I bought a remote controlled, 1:18 scale BMW Mini, with the batteries already in it PLUS spares for 2.99 in Home and Bargain :D GR8 FUN!!!

Went into the local Poundland today in Wrexham and picked this up -http://www.haynes.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stor ... &langId=-1not that I have a Land Rover, or ever have had one but for a quid its well worth a punt for a browse.anyone else grabbed any motoring bargains of any kind in their local quid shops?

Considering how much they are in that link, worth a fiver's investment and stick em on ebay for a fiver each plus postage? Last year I got the Hayne's calendar from Pundland, and this year there is a retro car calendar at our local small pound shop I think I will get. Also at poundland are the rubber mats, a full set for a quid, and the matt black, gloss black, grey primer and white primer.

I've moved on from gaffer tape. It's Gorilla tape only for me nowadays; makes gaffer look a bit inadequate really!

4-pack of those little bungee cords. Gr8 for holding stuff.Oh and 50 pack of chrimbo cards for 99p. That should be good for the next 10 years or so.

Posted

ahh yes bungee cords... sometimes, just sometimes cheap bulb sets that dont fit your car but one bulb from the set will fit....

Posted

Oh yes bulb sets. The headlight bulb fits the Mk2 transit, and is worth a quid on it's own.

'151' brand glass cleaner is very good, I've found.

Reckless fool, I bought mine from the 99p shop :D

Thanks retro for the tip about the Land Rover book, I picked one up today when I went in to get the dog a new pooper scooper for his Christmas present. ( Actually the dog owners will find that a useful tip :) )

You know the suction cup tea towel hooks, well they do some where the suction is created by and over-center krank which is also the hook itself (hopefully you see what i mean). Well if you have a window winder fail so the glass just drops, these work as pretty good temporary wedges (use upside-down).Unfortunately the last time I needed one, I couldn't find any of the 12 that cost me 50p 15 years ago................. Being a very occassional (and pretty cr4p) DIYer, I have a set of masonary chisels, various clamps and loads of other occassional tools (not spanners/plyers or anything I'd use more regularly) from various pound shops/cheap shops, plus cheap teatowels and kitchen cloths. Finally, I've found cheap bottle brushes and washing up brushes to be the best for cleaning wheels (they have to be cheap cos they break so easy - by 3 or 4 at a time)... Me, a cheap-skate, well no shit sherlock!

I've been buying paint brushes (£1 for 5) so I can just throw them out instead of trying to clean them. Also been stocking up on Swarfega, because it's £1.50 less than in Halfords. Only thing is, it's solid green instead of transparent green. And no bubbles.

I find the car wash/wax from Poundland is rather good. Haven't bought any for a while now cos asda had a special on Simoniz shampoo & wax about 6 months ago.....5 litres for £5  Bargain! That'll last me for years

I do half my grocery shopping at Home & Bargain, it's only me and the missus here so we don't need much. Chocolate Squares cereal is a-mazing!

And they usually do cheap oven cleaner, washing up liquid and other cleaning stuff. It may not be as good as name brand stuff but using twice as much (which is still cheaper) usually does the job, whether it's cleaning engine parts or tools.

NOOOOOOOO!

Never buy cheap paintbrushes, or your skirting boards will look like this:

Unless you are just using them for cleaning or greasing or some other un-paint related activity.

Nah, they come out fine. I took a picture of my glossy black rocker cover (it looks like it was sprayed!) but my camera won't connect to the computer.

Our Poundworld has Swarfega hand wipes, good for the glovebox, and first aid kits in a zipped bag, great for the knuckles!
