Great pics, and nice too see something other than a UK perspective. The Lotus Carlton/Omega is my money-no-object car. I found one for £10k in a local garage a few years back, but as the front bumper, bonnet and o/s wing were a slightly different shade to the rest of the car, I walked away swiftly. I found a Lancia Thema 8.32 in another garage, while looking at a Landy. The mechanic was only too eager to open the bonnet and fire it up! Who'd have thought a V8 Ferrari motor would fit in there? Sounded glorious tho'...

Austria is almost shite-free, sadly. Only "real" classics and new cars on the road, I only took pictures of these two:

They do look like good examples though Lukas.I just noticed the door mirrors on that Z1, they're almost 'dangly'.

Posted

Hey Lukas, for a place with no shite, you must take pictures of twice as much stuff as I even see with my own eyes! It's not that bad really.

I took a testdrive in this 1994 Audi A6 C4 2.8 Avant Quattro (4500 Euro) this week:

Posted Image

I´m on the hunt for a new daily-driver, but I experienced that I don´t like Audis.:cry: Of course the engine is nice and powerful, the Quattro seems phantastic too, but there was absolutely no fascination when I drove it, so I didn´t buy it. In the background there is my beloved Camry waiting that´s my daily driver during saltfree summer.

€4500!!

Blimey, cars are expensive there!!

Posted

The dealer wanted 5490 Euro at first (too much), I got him down to 4500 Euro (still a bit too much) but I did not like it that much. I would have bought it for 3800 Euro (fair price) I guess. The Quattro is more popular so more expensive than the FWD and the Avant is more sought after too.

:shock::shock::shock:

About a grand on a good day this side.

On the normal streets outside of town it would be hard to drive a RHD because you can´t overtake without a passenger. I need to drive into parkhouses too, not good witzhout passenger.

So I guess no, RHD wouldn´t be ideal.

Posted

Not ideal, but not un-do-able.

Bear in mind, that we only got some stuff as LHD only - and for not much more than the frankly obscene price on that four-ringer, we could have an equally wrong-hand-drive M3 or Integrale.

Posted

Although LHD over here seems to command a premium, probably for the reason demonstrated above..

£3.5K for what essentally is a last of the line 100 Avant..

No ta, I'd deal with RHD!

Having lived with a LHD over here for years, I don't think it would be that much of a problem..

There are a lot of import-taxes you have to pay when importing a car, so it will cost as much as if you buy one here. And it´s not allowed to import older cars with emission-ratings Euro II or worse into Austria. So importing is not common sense here, it´s too much hassle, it get´s very expensive with all the taxes and after all that it´s still RHD.

Thats mental, and to think that we had Lyne faulds wood, Campaining for cheaper cars in th UK!

I guess it's not like here where you can bring a car in, on foreign plates, insure it through a UK insurer and not have to register it for 6 months?

Seen that today, a not-so-rare Mercedes-Benz 190D Heckflosse.

Posted Image

They are very popular classic cars here, some of them are always around during the summer-month.

I would say that's gorgeous, but as I understand you're not a fan of Mercedes.

Posted

I´ve had a Mercedes-Benz from spring 2005 until late 2006, so I wouldnt say I don´t like them, but this 190D wasn´t my taste. Somehow the front looks too naked with the indicators near the windscreen and without foglamps under the headlights. :?

Posted

I do love the nakedness of it, very nice.

Seems mad that you get bummed for taxes when importing stuff from elsewhere in the EU. I suspect thats probably not even legal under EU law.
