It's an A reg GTi, with the 2.8-litre PRV V6. It's actually in amazingly solid condition, although the bonnet has seen better days, and I reckon a weekend and a hundred quid or so judiciously spent would have it ready for a test. The interior is blue velour and is more or less spotless, with big squishy seats in the usual French idiom. The seller is a Pug enthusiast and has another 604, as well as a 405 Mi16 Le Mans. The car is far from cheap for an obscure old saloon, more than I'd normally pay for something like this, but it has the potential to be an incredibly cool car. I'm seriously interested, but I've told the seller I can't commit until I know whether the business with the Ten is going to blow over or not. I can see myself cruising around in this, I really can. 8)

I'll bow down to your shiteness! 8) That's is a fantastic machine there, Hope you get it!

Lovin' the 604.I remember going in 604s when they were new, I still don't think I've ever been in a comfier car - Bentley included.

Looks pretty nice - it took us a while to guess at this the other evening didn't it?!

Here's the one I said I'd seen locally...

Lovely. Apparently this STI spec was auto only, presumably fuel consumption is dire.

Would be very jealous; interested to know how much he wants? From what I can gather these are starting to make good money over here, despite being an old Peugeot. Remember M Buckley did a good article in his C & S column fairly recently about having the urge to get one and being surprised at how all the good ones were being snapped up.They're certainly great looking cars and I doubt you would get anything more comfortable.

Looks great - we could do with one around/on here.Go on Wuv!

Beautiful looking car that! Why can't modern cars look even 10% as gorgeous as that?

Posted

I don't think they are beautiful, there are some awkward details around the back end and they are a bit compromised by having to share the 504's doors.Saying that, I could see myself in one too, although they aren't beautiful I like the styling a lot and the whole idea of the car (engorged waftier 504 with sharper styling). Please buy that one, get it roadworthy and sell it to me when you're bored of it.

What a wonderful heap of shite - I'd hit it. Especially if it has the interior as described!Wasn't there a Coupé Pug with a very similar front end to this? Much niceness as I recall.Too bad it's pricey tho - true shite shouldn't cost much remember..

The 504 Coupe has a fairly similar front end.

I'd like to see pics of the 604's interior too.

It's £600. Which is a lot more than I'd normally pay for something like this, but then RHD 604s don't come up very often. I wanted to take a pic of the interior, but my camera batteries gave up before I had the chance.

Big slab of lush. V. nice.Wuvz - didn't you win the bidding on the Mk1 Espace? How was that?EDIT: - just saw your post with the price for the 604 (how did I miss that? Duffer!) - that seems pretty good to me! I'd go for that!EDIT2: And now I've seen your Espace on another thread. I missed that too. I need my bed.

Yeah, it's not ridiculously expensive, but the car does need some work - passenger side doors have some minor dents and creases which don't look too bad but could be a bastard to get out, the bonnet really needs replacing, and the very ends of the sills need tidying up, plus odd scabs of surface rust. Plus it's a non-runner - this is purely due to standing though I reckon, it turns over fine and I should think with a set of plugs and some fresh petrol it'd soon fire up.Yep, I won the Espace. It's not very well, bless its heart - it had a recon engine 60,000 miles ago, and this recon engine had a head gasket and skim in 2006, shortly before it came off the road, but it still appears to be low on compression on one pot, it won't idle, it's a bit smokey and it's dribbling water through the "Do Not Open" cap on top of the radiator. It did drive the two miles or so from the scrapyard to my garage without breaking down though, and the temperature seemed to be holding steady. Everything else is OK - body is good, gearbox & clutch are fine, brakes bind on a bit but that's due to it standing around. Surprisingly all the electrics seem to work. It's just the engine that needs loving - so far I haven't plucked up the courage to attempt the 20-mile run from garage to unit...

I had been wondering if any straight 604s remained recently, thanks to this thread I can be somewhat reassured. Anyone have any rough ideas of total numbers remaining? Also would never have guessed about the 504 doors.

There's a fairly rough but in one piece 604 the same as Wuvvum's potential purchase up in Leeds sitting outside a house alongside a Jag, a rough as dogs 504 and a Crown. Pics in my long forgotten Leeds shite thread...Would be worth a note on the windshield maybes?I seem to remember a velour interior rather than vinyl....

I did scan and upload a road test for the TD version of one of these a while back.

What Car do slate it a bit though, But I can't see any problem with a top of the range 2.5 turbo diesel that can only do 0-60 in 15.2 secs and 98mph...?

According to the seller of this one, who seems to know his stuff, there's 15 still registered with the DVLA, of which 8 are on the road.

Looks like What Car were ahead of the game there, checking out the drift credentials of the 604 TD.

Surely they should have painted it satin black too?

LOL quite agree, however id advise going easy on the old Gauloise fags, as its a similar experience to being stabbed in the neck
