140 Visas for sale in various states on LeBonCoin this morning including this nice convertible at €3900 in Agen. And over 200 C15.

Which backs up what I was saying.

140 visa for sale, in the country they were made, which is much bigger and has aplenty of space to keep old cars than the UK. 140, that's not a lot really is it? Im even more surprised at only 200 C15's considering how much longer they were produced.

And as for advert prices, are they being achieved or is that the starting price?

Look at CX's for sale in this country, not many sell at the 7-10k bracket, but plenty advertised at that.

Im not arguing, im trying to be realistic and say these cars are classics and have a value but will never be e-type or mk1 escort money.

Four in the Pas de Calais region if anyone wants to pop over including this 68,000km example at 1500€. Also a low mileage GT at 7000€.

I think we disagree on what they sell for. Personally I’ll carry on putting many hundreds of pounds and many hundreds of man hours into returning my 1981 french registered Super E to the road, knowing i shall unlikely ever sell it, for a profit or otherwise.

The lowish number of C15's would be partly explained by their usability. Its the kind of vehicle people hold on to. A lot coming up for sale have failed their French MoT.

Yes those are just some nice ones I spotted. Lots going for peanuts too. This is 150€ with a failed head gasket. Except for the GT and Convertible not particularly collected in France. Most attention is on the 2CV.

CX asking prices are madness. Never mind the 7k-10k bracket, there are a few being tried for double that range.

DD Classics (always notorious) currently want twenty grand for a customised GTi automatic that has the wrong interior, wrong wheels, and missing bits.

Seymour Pope in Kings Langley tried for two years to flog a LHD GTi for 13 grand. They seem to have failed, as the car is no longer listed.

Again dozens for sale in France. These two are around 2500€. These don't have much of a French fanbase really. The top one is is Strasbourg with a long CT Collection so totally roadworthy.

Or get like a President - lwb Pallas with head gasket gone. 2500€.

They are seen as a bit bourgeois really - not the kind of collectors car most French like. Some are asking quite big money but lots of cheepies too.

A biggish number for a car that ceased production in 1988? How many Viva/Chevette/Metro would be up for sale from a comparable model years run in the UK? It's a good survival rate.

I think all this shows is that fairly nice cars reasonably priced sell well. High priced speculation, not so much. The problem is here, we are all fans of old chod, that we remember owning or being owned by parents etc.....we aren't your average 'classic' owner. And a lot of us don't see/appreciate the value that some people put on them.

smaller country though, the survival rate of viva's etc is probably in a similar ratio v's size of marketplace.

Interestingly LN/LNA prices seem to be outstripping Visa prices these days from following them on LBC the last couple of years.

Yes and think the air-cooled 2-cylinder Visas are the ones attracting a bit of a following in France.

This beauty is 600€ with CT. 88,000km only.

In its natural habitat - 'pavillions' and chain-link fencing. Just needs a fir tree hedge.

These bottom of the range Visas are much more  utilitarian looking.

I hope CX prices do start to go up - if a nice one is worth five figures then it might make my battered old heap worth more than the £500-odd I paid for it.

Yours is definitely worth more than that. It’s just the top priced ones aren’t selling for what’s being asked. They aren’t DS’s.

....and never will be. They are an evolution....and a pain in the arse for exterior body panels, as Citroen welded instead of bolting them on, so replacement means using the sparkly stick.

Tell me about it. When I ran cx’s as daily’s 20 years ago the panels were hard to get even then.
