Shite engine conversions

That's a great conversion. I love it. Think I'd have to wind the turbo and fuelling up a bit though.

Indeed, much as I dislike anyone who puts a diesel engine into a car, the sight of that Jag smoking like the Peterbilt from "Duel" and sounding somewhat similar would amuse me. Especially if it was in full wedding regalia.

This Austin Princess 3 litre was owned/converted by a chap in the Plymouth area a few years ago, the 3 litre straight 6 petrol engine was replaced by a Diahatsu diesel donk, GR8 for better fuel economy, but one of these just isn't right going up the road sounding like a Massey Ferguson

My mates just stuck a meistro turbo diesel into a Volvo amazon , runs great , volvo lump was knackered anyway , still RWD , great home conversion IMHO.

Datsundrew was it? He came over and had a chat to me at Retro Rides. He referred to an overdrive as a 'MEHHHHHHHuuuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhh' switch :D

Looks Like the Ford Flattie...though it might be the Mercury one instead :?:

It is a 1929 De Soto. Engine is def. a Ford flattie.I may be wrong but I would expect a fairly asthmatic 4 cyl side valve in there.

A friend of the family is on with fitting a Sierra 1.8TD into a Stag to be his new daily. He's currently running around in a 2CV pick-up. Heroic.

Please kill him. I don't like Stags, but a diesel Stag is something that would possibly cause me to murder the animal who concocted it.Diesel is and will always be the wrong way to power a car, no matter how much cheapskates complain about the price of fuel.Putting a diesel lump into anything that previously had a V8 will be a definate hanging offence when I rule the world. I've previously enjoyed ripping TDi lumps out of Land Rover 90s to put V8s in, and will continue to do so until the diesel apologists of the world choke on their own sooty particulates.

How about a V8 diesel?

A Scania V8 truck motor, in a bespoke off roader. 450 bhp and all that torque! :)

Good idea. I love the sound of a Scania V8, they sound so mean and offbeat compared with other, presumably alll straight-6, modern lorries.

It's wrong, but not as wrong as a bloody Sierra TD lump.Sierra TD lumps weren't even any good in Sierras. Rough as a badgers arse at the best of times. Replacing a petrol V8 with one is, in my eyes, unforgivable. If he can't afford to run a V8 Stag, he should buy something else. A Micra or something. Don't ruin a car just to save money. When it's finished it'll be utterly worthless, so he's spunking the money he thinks he's saving on fuel anyway.

But he is saving money on head gaskets/skims. Mind you the 1.8 td lump is not the most economical lump to begin with. Has this prick never heard of LPG? If he needs reliability get a 4.2 Rover motor out of an LSE Rangie, get it gassed and away he goes.

I'm with Pete on this one. Why the fuck buy a sports car if you want good fuel economy? Idiotic.

This is quite embarassing. I know a Triumph (not BL) fan who wants to drop a Stag V8 in a TR7 to make a proper TRIUMPH TR8! He is also investigating whether a couple of 16 valve Sprint heads can be put on top.

Umm, I'm pretty sure the answer is no!

A Saab 900 engine might go in whilst still "keeping it in the family".

There was a bloke on Retro Rides who had some kind of mint Datsun saloon, and he was going to 'tune it up' by lobbing a Pinto in it.Seriously, I'd rather have a K Series than a fucking Pinto. At least the K Series is powerful for its size \ weight, and Rover cured the HGF that plagued so many of them..

The thought of my ol' Pinto makes me cringe. Horrible, horrible, horrible engine. I could swiftly move my iron blocked Mitsubishi 4G63 with ancillaries still on without aid around my garage. The horrible Pinto 1600 stayed in the corner because I couldn't move it. The twat even tipped over and emptied all it's evil black blood over the garage floor. I was hoping to sell it (LINK) to some Ford nut to put in his 100e, but I think my ad put them off.Eventually gave it away to the bloke who bought my kitcar.Land Rover actually cured the K-Series problem (under Ford ownership I think?). Rover Group possibly didn't know what the problem was - a pair of cheap steel dowels, a 3ply head gasket, and an uprated thread on the sump oil rail for good luck. Even they could afford that cheapo £50 fix!!I would usually say C20XE, but I now think that 4AGE from the Toyota MR2's is the best engine transplant for any smallish car, they're f*cking rapid, tiny and 35mpg.
Posted

Rover engineers worked out a fix ages ago but management was too stingy to introduce it. Another reason they didn't develop the K-series was the promise of Hams Hall built BMW engines to slot into the Rover 45 replacement.

Someone say STAG DIESEL? Saw one of those t'other month at Uttoxeter Race Course. PICCIE:

Arent 4AGE's quite expensive nowadays? Not that it really matters as such. XE again a cool engine but again quite heavy.I had a Pinto transplanted into my old car, but it was an Escort so sort of went with the territory. Would have prefered an XE or even Zetec but too expensive. The Pinto pushed the car on pretty nicely though, if I could have another engine with it's delivery I'd be pretty happy...I am sure there used to be a Mk2 Escort that rallied, which was powered by an 1800 BL B-Series motor. Pretty shite transplant I reckon..

That actually sounds quite cool, assuming the v8 isn't a dud.

What's the point in putting a Rover V8 into one of those? Surely there are more powerful Mercedes engines that would drop in with less hassle.Truly shite.
