1.8TD Escort saloon / orion MkVa

Very economical

great runner

loads of T&T

extras include: RS2000 bumper (fully wired) lowered suspension, 17in alloys* (though it still actually drives really smooth) big exhaust, noisy radio, towbar etc.

Looking for about £700, or near offer.

Is that a fair price? It looks nice, drives nice and is dang cheap to run.

*Note the wheels have been refurbished and repainted silver since this pic, bumpers are painted grey not placca finish

We will also be selling off a MkV XR3i 130 with 18in rims, morette headlight conversion, loads of performance / interior / exterior upgrades & whatnot, but it's probably not really right for shite if you see what I mean.

I had a 4 door diesel one of these myself years ago, Nice car i thought, Went well and i had 15" alloys one mine so it looks pretty good as well.Reminds me of a little story when i had it, the injection pump belt snapped on it one day in Chelmsford so my dad towed me back home up the A12 behind his Transit with a wanky bit of rope.We use to have to crossover the central reservation from the Colchester bound side to get home, which meant sitting in a gap in the middle of the duel carriageway waiting for a gap on the London bound side and then flooring it across with 80+ mph cars coming down on you, But when dad towed me home and we crossed this carriageway the bloody rope snapped, Luckily i just rolled across clear before i got hit, I proper shit myself.

To be honest I think that's a bit expensive, but what do I know..What's the mileage? Much history? MOT etc....Umm, I dont want to buy, just thinking of stuff people will want to know.EDIT:I forgot to take into consideration all the scrappage and what not, so something like this is definitely not as easy to find as it was 6 months ago - so I reckon you are about right with the monies..Cheers, Greg.

I may well be interested Mr Pog, I am looking for wintershite at the moment. I will consult with the management. ;)

Posted

OK, Mileage is 137,000. Tax until 12/09, MoT wa shorter than thought so will come with a full year's ticket :)Not really much 'history', but it's been well maintained, my brother-in-law who owns it is a garage manager so anything that needs doing gets done. Price is 'ONO' so come and have a look / prod and whatnot and make an offer. Oh and sorry, no rear wiper. I think they were only on the 'orion' badged models, this is allegedly an escort....

I've never had one, so don't jump down my throat on this...IIRC they may be very economical, but aren't they very very slow?Or was the pub know-all wrong.

Posted

Not very very slow. About on a par with an Isuzu/Vx 1.7TD. Not earth shatteringly quick, but not so slow it's unbearable. I am very tempted to keep it for myself....

U HAZ BOOST GAUGE?I have achingly bad memories of my Mk5 Escort but this looks very appealing.

BOOST GAUGE NOT 2FAST NOT 2FURIOUS NOT GR8 4 TOKYO DRFT. (ETC)

HI MATE ARE THE BREAKS 18 CARROTS GOLD PLATE?

Posted Image

Yes, they are from the 'auto sports performance' range at Elizabeth Duke.

:P:lol::lol:

Correct me if I'm wrong. (I'm merely just a member of the orion-register.com) But I'm pretty sure they were orions up until they received the mk6 escort nose and rear end (curvy-lights) transplant. Then they became 'Escort Saloons' (The same time that the ESCORT badge became all separated and chromed)This one, however, has a mk5 escort nose and flat rear end. Thus should be an orion as per ze badge.

...and how come the wheels have now changed colour from the original picture?

The last orion's came out in 1993 and Ford started calling them Escort 4 doors when the smiley face shape came out (K plates), mine was a 1994 L reg and as called a Escort. Also the only Orion's with the rear wiper was the 91-92 shape 1.6i Ghia models.

Posted

See, on paper it's an Escort. But it's always referred to as 'the orion', so the badge was a natural extension of this.

I thought you hated these Pog! - I know it's your brother in laws and all, but sorry, can't see any appeal in that at all.Wouldn't pay anywhere near £700 for it either, but then again, cheap, usable stuff seems to have taken a price rise recently, going on what Panda found. I concede there is also the 'a normal person can actually fix it' factor in its favour as well.Give me a nice Rover218D any day!

Hey that escort saloon/orion (delete as applicable) had the same engine as my P100! TRUCK ENGINE FTW

Ebay hammer fell at £550. :)Next for the chop, one MkV XR3i. Not your bag? Don't worry, it's a Ford, simply buy it & hide it in a shed for 10 years then rape the scene tax.... better than money in the bank?http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0483469836

Get some bloody pictures up.

I had a 93 k pre facelift Orion 1.8i Ghia Si (130 ps) basically the best orion ford made. And i thought it was a cracking car. Had a cassette player and a cd player in the dashboard. And went really really well indeed. That had a rear wash wipe aswell. I'l dig a picture out

For the benefit of Father Ted (and any other Autoshiters having a mid-life crisis), pictures of the escort are now on the ebay click above.
