To be fair to Stevie Wonder, the rear bumper looked loads better than that when I sold it. I'd say he's been to one of those hand car wash places and the acid has made the paint go crap.

Shall I send a message asking if it was his dear departed Grandad who did the matt black bonnet?

This is everything wrong with the majority of people selling cheap (and not so cheap) cars in this country.  Absolute lying scrotes.

Shall we count the lies.

1. Was granddad's car. Nope. He bought it from me for 400quid a week or so ago.

2. Grandad died (this may be true I guess)

3. Seller MOT'd the car. I did!

4. No rust. Advisory on MOT.

5. Rust the size of 10p. Perhaps a bag of 10p's.

My eBay watch list at the moment comprises of a Skoda Favorit, a Citroen BX, a Mk1 Mondeo and two Toyota Corollas.

One of those is very high on my list of desires, but I just know it will sell for more than I can afford to bid.

14 hours left to go...

Not fancy a Fiesta @TheDoctor?

Mk3 or previous, maybe. Other than that - no, too many bad experiences.

I think it's a MK3.5?

Yeah, that's when they started to feel like 'modern' Fords... It's in Merseyside too, so not really practical/cost effective to collect. Looks good value mind, and thanks for pointing it out.

I've also got a few cars on my Facebook saved list - A Hyunda Accent, Seat Cordoba, Rover 75, Rover 418 Tourer, VW Polo, Skoda Felicia, Mk5 Escort, Renault Clio.

Loads of options, but all just - meh. I fancy the Rover 418, but a little pricey at the moment. I may just wait until payday and add a couple of hundred to my 'budget', and see what is available then.

There is a very nice little Fiesta in the for sale section. Looks a real poppet. Take a look.

Plate isworth the asking price alone. I hear Viktor Orban is sniffing at it for the Hungarian Embassy plate...?

I'm staying up to watch a certain BX that finishes at midnight. It's still currently within budget, but have a feeling it will go for a lot more. But if I don't watch and it goes for a price I could have afforded, I'll kick myself. I kinda wish it would get bid up now so I can just go to bed.

Mind you, I'm working from home tomorrow, so I can have a half hour lie in or so....

None of my business but I'm going to say it anyway... you don't want to do a couple of two bob jobs on a Clio, but you want to rely on a BX to provide you with reliable and cheap daily transport. Best of luck with that Doc ?

Well thank you all for pointing out the error of my ways. I'll scrap my dream and get a fucking Yaris instead.

It's been your dream to own a BX? There are a lot of cars that fall into the gap between a Yaris and a BX in terms of reliable cheap transport.

I get that you don't like taking advice and feel people are criticising your choices but I am sure the vast majority are just trying to help.

Sorry for giving my 2 pence.

It's not going to happen anyway, I never get the cars I really want, as they're always a few quid more than I can spare at the time.

Advice is fine, it's when it comes in the form of snide judgemental comments that it gets under my skin.

Yes, I get that a BX isn't exactly known for reliability, but hey, it's an XUD, how bad can it be? ? Plus if I'm going to have to throw a few quid at a car to keep it going, it might as well be something I actually want.

I guess I'm a little on edge, what with being told to work from home, as I'm sure many people are, and whether I like to admit it or not, I'm concerned about this current situation in the world /UK. My missus is diabetic, so is 'higher risk' . Unfortunately she works in a shop, so can't work from home. Also, the only bus she can get to work is also an airport bus.

Mine's reliable, but I run it as my daily and I've spent on average £1000 a year in repairs since I've owned it. It's a great car and I don't begrudge it a penny of that for the pleasure it brings, but you've never made a secret of being skint and I think trying to daily a BX on the cheap is a bad idea.

This is merely an observation, if it appears judgemental then I apologise wholeheartedly. I'll refrain from commenting further in these threads. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Surely at 400ish quid though, it's worth the risk?

Is the 418 the grey one with something like 200k miles?

Yeah. It's up for 600,but I'd say its more a 400 quid car.

Don't assume that cos it's XUD it'll be unbreakable. Mine is alo XUD-engined, and - servicing aside - £0 of the thousands I've spent have gone on the motor.

The guy selling it is a serial Rover buyer (think he bought Dollywobbler's 800?) but he also breaks loads of them, I think you'd struggle to get him down on price. The tourers generally seem to go for a decent amount more than the saloons too, which I can't quite wrap my head around.

Well I bottled it. Anxiety got the better of me. Wish I'd never mentioned it on here now. Someone has got a bargain in my opinion. ?

FTFY. Night all.

Some old cliques ring true here'

Remember that the purchase price is the entry price.

At this price bracket, everything will have issues. Just got to pick which battles you want to fight.

I personally try not to be snide but you post messages of woe about having no money, ask if buying this or selling that is a bad idea, everyone generally agrees it's a bad idea but you do it anyway.

I don't mind what you do as it doesn't affect me at all but we all now know you'll just do what you want to do, regardless of what advice you seek and are given.
