Mr_Bo11ox Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 strangely it's listed on the askmid and DVLA site as a RS2000 with 1993cc engine?..LOL! Sounds like an authentic 'OSF' at least.
Mr Lobster Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 I think the Escort is a lovely thing. Yes its almsot a shame to use it, but if I had plenty of money and could park it up somewhere warm and dry just to look at then I'd gladly have it. Ascona is superb too. Think I actually prefer that to the Escort
Guest Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 Miserable lot! How can you not like that? Its bloody great FFS Hey I liked it, nowt against old Fords, if MK2 Escorts were about £300 I'd love one. Probably a nice Ghia.
Milford Cubicle Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 I like it too, but an ugly, boxy purposeful saloon wouldn't be my choice of static sculpture.Like others have said, cars lose their whole purpose if they aren't driven, I'd rather see that Escort with a few signs that it's lived a bit.
trigger Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 I'm i the only one that now See's a Mk2 Escort and feels a bit sad?, 10 years ago you could of brought one for a few hundred pounds and enjoyed it, Now with this OSF Tax crap and that the prices have rocketed so much that's never going to happen. My mates mum had a T red Mk 2 1300 L 4 door in Brown with tan interior, Was a lovely old thing which she sold for £400 in 1998, I would of loved it.
Milford Cubicle Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 It's not so bad, with the focus on old Fords it means that rival cars from the same period are much cheaper. I'd prefer a Chevette myself, at least it doesn't have cart springs.
AnthonyG Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 A mate was still buying 'Condition 2' 4dr Mk2 Escorts for £500 in 2003, it was off old dears mind!He just studied local papers intently and was very, very quick off the mark!Unfortunately they were for rallying purposes so I doubt many of them still exist.P.S At the same time he was getting ratty Chevettes for between £50-100, and Sierras for free!
HillmanImp Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 I remember the thing in the 80's when Dinky toys suddenly went through the roof in value and it was all on the news. My mum was saying 'see if you looked after yours and kept them in them boxes they would be worth a load of money now'. I was thinking 'Yeah, but what would have been the point of having it if i never played with it?' For the guy who owns this car its like having a supermodel for a wife, showing her to all your mates but popping upstairs for a five finger shuffle instead of giving her a good nailing. Twat. Shag her till she cant walk anymore.

Mash Posted August 13, 2009 Author Posted August 13, 2009 I'm i the only one that now See's a Mk2 Escort and feels a bit sad?, 10 years ago you could of brought one for a few hundred pounds and enjoyed it, Now with this OSF Tax crap and that the prices have rocketed so much that's never going to happen. My mates mum had a T red Mk 2 1300 L 4 door in Brown with tan interior, Was a lovely old thing which she sold for £400 in 1998, I would of loved it.Yeah, it's a bit of shame. I toyed with getting a Ghia a few years ago as a daily but went onto other things in the end. Looking around there are still a few 4-doors to be had fairly reasonably. Not bargain prices mind, but not stupidly out of the way for a car in half-decent nick. I must admit mt preference would always be for an Avenger though they seeme to get snapped up pretty quickly nowadays too.
Gompo Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 I like the Escort, think it's great - although if it's not a genunine RS1800 it's a bit of a let down.If I had enough money I'd have a proper RS1800, and probably would keep it in this condition and barely drive etc. It is a piece of history to some extent. Not sure how many are left but cant be many. However, I'd also have a mad/modified RS2000 with some sort Pinto derived motor in it and use it properly.
v6pop Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 Just an observation, not knocking the MK2 Escort in any way(be nicer if it was a MK1 though )....take a look at the wheels on that car....look again......the guy is such a showman hes even lined up all the wheels and the centre RS caps so they are all exactly in the same place!!!!! Kin'ell!!!

Kin'ell!!!Ha, I wondered if anyone would notice that! Takes quite a bit of effort doesn't it. I'm also puzzled by the DVLA info now too The ultimate irony was that he had to drive through a muddy puddle to get to the arena to collect first prize....
Pete-M Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 A mate was still buying 'Condition 2' 4dr Mk2 Escorts for £500 in 2003, it was off old dears mind!!I really don't want to tell you how much I just paid for the 1300 Sport.Wasn't as cheap as £500, but it wasn't 'scene taxed' to death.A lot less than bare shells go for on ebay, put it that way.The unfortunate fact I've got to spend at least £2500 on getting it nice, TÜVing it, registering it, bringing it here, then MOT'ing it and registering it again means it's just about worth doing.Good job I love Mk2 Escorts really.
Gompo Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 I look forward to seeing the finished result Pete, good luck with it!A mate was still buying 'Condition 2' 4dr Mk2 Escorts for £500 in 2003, it was off old dears mind!!This isnt surprising at all, it's only in the last couple of years when 4drs have risen, in 2003 a nicely modified Pinto powered 4dr would be £1200-1500 where as now it seems people are happy to pay £3k and the like.In 2003 I bought a just about roadworthy 2dr for £750, in 2001 (I think) I bought quite a nice 2dr (which I need to find pics of) for £480.
