Problem number one.

The car has no fuel in it and the fuel flap release doesn't seem to work. Or the trunk release, less importantly.

There’s a secondary release in the boot (white cable on the left hand side)

If a clattering noise starts up, it'll be the wibbly metal plates on the rear wheels.  I had to blu tak them down to stop me going mad with the noise.  The proper way is to remove them, but my jack wasn't strong enough to lift the old girl.

Aha !! I saw that on a video James showed me earlier and I meant to ask what was going on there. Why do the rear wheels have wibbly metal plates anyway? Can’t find anything in the repair manual under “Wibbly”

The GNAA are also fully supportive of fluffy balls.

I've no idea!  When Alan did the hubs he put everything back as is, but didn't drive it far so wouldn't have noticed the noise. Whip off the wheels and just take them off, dunno what they do TBH.  Maybe they help secure the trims or something.

I haven't heard any wibbly clatter yet. I'll be sure to ignore it if I do.

Things reached peak American earlier in the big brown Buick as I was sat listening to country music on the radio whilst ravaging some fast food garbage.

This car really screams for a set of wire hubcaps. Someone make it happen!

It does have a set in the boot but I either need to source a hubcap nut key & replacement nuts (the original wasn’t with the car so they had to be butchered to get them off to work on the car, or find another way of securing the hubcaps

Fortunately the plastic nuts are still intact, all they needed was a gentle tap with a chisel and hammer to prise them off.  But it was felt best leave the trimz off, just in case it got a puncture on the shitely north (hopefully the spare still has air as I pumped it up before the golden girl left me).

Oh, and Chod Speed Mr Hairy Bollox!

I had to pull over for a little kip but it's now time to get up and get going again.

How comfy is the back seat?

Posted

It's probably a little more spacious to kip in than an AX, but I'm not sure about the "sleeping bag"

This whole thread boys.... Just, wow!

An epic tale for sure, chodspeed!

Christ, you only crossed the border an hour ago?

Better get a move on!

It also looks like you're taking the slower route up the A68...

My concern is founded on my communications with Mr Fluffy Balls' assistant, who told me the Buick needs to be at the ferry terminal by 3pm.

Hmmmm, I think the hypermiling to try and achieve 25mpg may just have to go out the window if they’re to make the ferry. It wouldn’t be the end of the world if they didn’t make it as I’d just change the booking to Saturday night. It would mean that I wouldn’t get to experience the full delight of this eagerly anticipated automobile for another 3 weeks till I get back from Bulgaria.

Edge of the seat stuff this........

I managed to get high 20s out of it on a run without hypermiling.  Although I suppose they are going uphill which doesn't help.

Alex said he managed 28.4mpg out of the first tank which was less horrific than I was expecting
