Barry Cade Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 Octavia diesel - dual mass flywheels, sticky VNT turbo mechanisms, seized one way clutch in the alternator pulley - leading to a broken auxiliary belt tensioner and air conditioning compressor clutches falling off are fairly common under bonnet ailments. Window regulators breaking, windscreen wiper motors going haywire, wiper linkages seizing up and central locking problems are widespread. The electronics are complicated, CAN bus and expensive door control units for the convenience system, dash panels can become faulty and are easy to physically replace, but without the PIN numbers for the immobiliser and the equipment and know how of how to get them working, it'll be a visit to the main dealer. As with any car, they are built down to a price and not upto a standard.Fabias have their own set of common problems as well.If you get stuck, there is a wealth of information here:http://briskoda.net/forums/Same as all new cars, full of crap that folk think they want, but don't really need. Buy an Estelle!

Pillock Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 Question: should a 51 plate Elegance have 'convenience' windows? i.e. they all roll up when you lock the doors remotely? The manual seems to suggest it does, but we can't get it working. Just says to hold the lock button but nothing happens.Does it need resetting or activating somehow?

Someone on http://www.briskoda.net might have the answer.Well done tontops - be interested to see how you get on with it over the long term; my own 405 has (hopefully) a bit of life in it before being replaced yet...!
Volksy Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 On the MkIV golf I had, it was when you used the key in the door, Hold it on lock to put he windows up, and on unlock to put them all down. Its didn't have a remote as it was a lowly SDi, served me right for ordering a black one, as it was the only model in Black they had.. Damn you Hertz....

trigger Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 I have a W reg VW Passat 1.9 TDi 115 PD Sport or something like that, Great car, Been really impressed with it so far, Very comfy, Quick and smooth though a little noisy on start up and when driving around 80 mph but it is a diesel so it's to be expected. Also doe 54 mpg on a run and 50 mpg round town which is excellent, my old Focus TDCi was only doing 40 mpg all the time.As for the windows mine are like Volksy said, When the windows are down, put the key in the lock and turn the key as to lock it but keep the key on against the lock spring, the windows will go up until you turn the key back again, If that makes sense!, Mine doesn't work of the remote either.
Milford Cubicle Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 Even Rover 800s have that lux feature. Though it's only good for closing the 2 front windows on boggo versions, as the rears are manual.

Don't take it personally. We have a 2006 Golf GTI in my house and it's the same way.

hennabm Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 My Ambiente TDI didn't have this feature and my MkII Elegance TDI est doesn't either
Richard Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 Our C5 has that feature and you can even open the windows with the remote.
