'Extensive rust' probably means front chassis rails, sills, rear wheelarches and possibly the entire rear wing. The front chassis rail issue is specific to the Mk2.

Those seem to rust even worse than the mk1s. There's pretty much a point of no return rust wise with these when they start to go around the rear of the cills and floor the doors won't close properly and stuff. Spend a bit more and buy a non rotten one I recon that ones probably only worth bumming for its running gear.

Thanks for that chaps, I shall put the smallish pile of money back under the mattress and keep an eye out for something less orange underneath

Each to their own, but I really wish people wouldn't try and make half-arsed Mercury sled replicas out of Amazons. It would look better without the overriders in the grille.

TBH, it isn't worth £1500 without an MOT. The satin black paint job looks alright (although the red it went over is a really saleable colour) and the crossmember work is usually a horrible, drawn out affair.

Early steels are nice, though.

totally agree, it's an idea that has been done (badly) to death and I have only ever seen one that I would want to own. And that one isn't it.

Yanks are cheap enough, you don't need to go wasting money on wannabe cars

In a recent comedy programme, Llandewi Brefi was where lot of gay folk lived. The reality is more interesting and the village was once the LSD capital of Wales, before all the hippies got busted. It seems some LSD is still around...

Bloody Hell, that takes me back . A load of my dad's mates got captured in Operation Julie. There were more hippies than farmers in Tregaron on market day in the 70's

Weren't they going to tip LSD  into the reservoir and send Birmingham on a communal trip?   Would have cheered it up a bit!

HOW MUCH???????????  Cue the Bargain thread for that one.  Would it be too much to ask to see either some kind of listing of what's there, or a few photos of carefully-chosen highlights?  As it is, the whole box is worth a quid.  If you're close enough to collect.

OK, this is massively out of Shite territory, but it's so massively raving bonkers shite, that I just can't withhold it from you.

Actually, I dreamt of this once and am still unsure whether it was a nightmare or not.

I know very little about P6's but see loads with the spare wheel on the boot lid, is this where they were mounted from the factory?

Posted

P6 boot is tiny and the spare wheel sitting upright to one side didn't help, so boot top spare wheel mount was handy.

The reason the boot is so small is the space the DeDion tube rear axle design takes up.

I must have been the only person to ever take the trouble to strip out the rear tube, replace the bellows and refill with oil, but the difference that extra damping/locating made to handling was amazing, you could take sleeping policemen at any speed and be virtually unaware that you'd gone over one.

Biggest headache to fix was the inboard mounted (discs close to the rear diff) swinging arm Girling calipers, even fitting new pads was a bugger...though to be fair they didn't often go wrong being out of harms way...those same calipers fitted to the rear of mk4 Zephyr/Zodiac could be an arse...don't ask me how i know.

Very strong car though, front springs mounted horizontally against the bulkhead which was brick shite house standard as a result.

I had a 2000TC manual and a 3500 auto, the V8 was a superb car, but i have a secret need to get a P5 coupe and indeed this one keeps calling me...

again, its hardly shiter territory.

It was an extra cost option called the 'Touring Package', comprising a reinforced bootlid with the provision to mount the wheel in its centre, a medallion to cover the aperture in case you didn't carry the spare on the lid, an ingenious prop rod setup to hold the bootlid open, and a chrome handle (actually a Series 1 door handle) at the lower end of the bootlid, so you could swing it open with the heavy wheel mounted to it.

This looks GR9.  Beyond my budget but I'm hoping he'll take an offer on it.  How much do you reckon it's worth?  I tried to get an idea by leafing through PC last night but they haven't got the valuation pages in there.

I remember them as comfy old things as my mate's Dad had a silver GLX back in the late 80s.

Off topic I know, but I saw a documentary on Channel 5 that claimed Hitler had a similar ambition and he even planned a raid on the Albert Hall to achieve it.
