£700 doesn't seem bad for the Renault 16, but I dunno anything about them lol. Long trip though!

I think we have a ferry that goes direct to Sweden and you can pretend you're in an episode of Triangle while you're on board.

'WITCH WAS OWNED BY MY GRANDAD'

Dennis? Dennis Thatcher? After all these years?

WAS OWNED BY MY GRANDAD WHO PASSED AWAY 2WEEKS AGO SO WE ARE HAVEING TO EMPTY HIS HOUSE AND STORAGE WE STARTED EMPTYING THE HOUSE THEN ALL A SUDDEN WE OPEND THE GARAGE TO FIND THIS LITTLE OLD ESCORT SITTING THERE LOOKING AT ME IN THE EYES WE STILL HAVNT CAME ACROSS ON FINDING THE V5 OR THE KEYS SO WHEN I HAD IT RECOVERD I HAD TO BREAK THE IGNITION TO STEER IT'

So this serial seller of car parts and former recovery truck owner didn't know his granddad had a Mk1 Escort?

No probate yet surely?

Have checked a map and I think this is literally as far away as it is possible for a car to be. 12,000 miles by sea according to a shipping website I just consulted, meaning it's going to cost Coalnotdole £34,200 to go fetch it for me in his boat.

That's 7.5k in real money. even taking into account shipping of about 2k that's a mega bargain. these eddy convertibles go for 25k over here

Non running 928 in Inverness. Nice easy fix right??

I was harbouring thoughts of offering him my A3 as swap but I fear this wouldn't fit in my lockup so I'd just be stranded with a non-running, non mot and taxed porsche 928 on a hired trailer.

Ferries don't go direcf to Sweden any more. You go to Denmark then drive into Abbaville. My predecessor did all this, but then he died from expletive related injuries.

What's wrong with that?

A relatively unrusty Mk3 Transit - at least, it is right now.  With that much road salt stuck to it, it may not even be worth weighing in by the end of the week as it will weigh practically nothing.

There's a nearly identical one that lives not far from here, it's ten times dirtier, I suspect has not seen a hosepipe in years, and consequently the bodywork is rapidly turning into a sieve.

That missing cover for the front towing eye hints that it's already started the race.  Not a bad looking car in that colour really but together with the Marea and Punto these were made during Fiat's wonderful period of making cars that lived up to their reputation for poor reliability whilst also being as dull as any eurobox to look at.

Jon, a lorry ferry goes from Hull to Gothenburg -and will take a car towing a trailer. I did a 'full viability' less than 3 months back.

Downside is that the ticket includes a compulsory cabin (2 nights) & all meals. Its 'kin eexpensive -but if the cars viable, a better option than the long haul.

Mine weren't

That is how a mk1 should look the spring is between the top and bottom wishbones and can't be seen as the disc is in the way. The shock operates on the top wishbone, bit crap really

Am I missing something or is this otherwise tidy Cavalier missing its front springs?

With not too much work it looks like that could be put back to OEM look quite easily.
