Why on God's earth is that POS £4,100 and rising?

THIS IS A VERY VERY RARE VAN

Utter bullshit.

They may be rare in the UK, but in the rest of the world they are a breeding pest. I can see 2 from my front door!

And the less said about the condition, the better.

Verdict: geographically challenged supertwat.

Looks like big jiggy is selling up

What a hideous POS

I just found a shite car on Auto Trader:

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201712172117383

I had the misfortune to visit this place recently and that is one of the nicer more subtle pieces of crap they had. A white Hummer that had been colour coded with Dulux and an Artex brush was a high point as was a mirror wrapped SL that had a gap up the bonnet and over the roof where the vinyl had shrunk.

Needless to say the X5 we went to see was clocked and with accident repair work Stevie Wonder would have noticed. But the best thing was a hideous orange Golf with scissor doors and Lamborghini badges which the Luton drug dealing, money laundering salesman tried to convince us was an actual Lamborghini, "Tuned in the factory at Maranello ( sic), innit Bruv"

Its not every day (or year) where we can show Mr. Barrett anything, but confusing and similarly dis-interesting they may be, the main visual difference in W201/W124 is at the back.  Like MM said, one is bigger than the other but like Father Ted's faraway cow that doesn't help when there is only one to look at.

W201...(only sold as 190/190D/190E) d

W124 (sold as 200 through to 500E and many boring stops in between)   These cars survived the switch that threw Mercedes from a quality car maker to a shit car maker so they may be seen with slightly less prominent grilles and the badges switched, like this one, to E300 rather than 300E.   They're still W124s though...

The other pointer is that W201s are usually, but not always, slightly less rustier than W124s.

Thanks for this handy guide. I'd never realised that Mercedes-Benz made more than one model. I owned one once, which looked like this...

...but I never knew what it was because the badge had come off. I only remember owning it because I have photographs. It was hazardously dull to drive.

The 124 is a generation after the 190. It was 123, 190, 124 in order of introduction...I think

No 124 should be dull - they handle beautifully and have saved my life at least once.

Grr, no. The 190 (project code W201) came out in 1983 and was a size smaller than the W123 (200-280E). The W124 (200-300E, later 500E) came out about 2 years later and replaced the W123.

The 190 and the W124 were the same generation, just different sizes. Think Cortina vs Granada, or 3-Series vs 5-series. They sold alongside each other until about 1993, by which time all cars looked identical and shit regardless of who made them.

Shitting Norah, here's a properly rare car. My dad had the Cavalier version of the same, they were a stop gap until they'd made the (1. 8 SRi models shortly after

Mega fit these, £4,000 probably quite cheap the way things are now. Remember when you could score them really cheap, but don't they rot like there's no tomorrow?

I humbly disagree with the above.

However, I dislike that the owner appears to have replaced the subtle original badges with B&Q house numbers.

Slc is less popular and less valuable than the sl, which is the same but with not roof.

I had an s class in that colour with that engine I’ve never dealt with mpg like it . I used to regularly climb under it as I was sure fuel was pishing out somewhere . It wasn’t .
