I can't remember when I last saw the old red plates either.  Are they still legal or has everyone been forced to have the lovely* new style plates?

Last time I remember seeing them in the UK - early 1980s on a series 1 Fiat 127 crossing the Erskine Bridge.

They are still legal for old format registrations, although if you go to car show, you'll only see a handful of them as either they have registered a UK import in the new format or they just plain haven't bothered their arse with the finer details of a correct specification period plate. Other than that, it was still an option to have a non-reflective plate, so like pre-1973 UK cars, folk wang a pair of black n white ones on to look old instead of what they might of had when they were actually new - a modern spangly pair of reflectives to make them look new.

'MADE IN COVENTRY 50 YEARS AGO WHEN WE MADE REAL CARS AND THATS WHY ITS RUNNING EVERY DAY NOW, SMOOTH FAST AND QUIET'

That's brill M8, I understand how it being built in Coventry means it's such a GR8 runner today

'ITS HAD new pistons, Timing chain, main bearings, big end bearings, new webber carburettor, speedo cable, slave cylinder, battery, plugs and points...'

Oh, so it's only a good runner because you've rebuilt the engine, not bec...

'...Heated rear screen. Good radial tyres. new shocks, new carpets, new fuel pump, new oil pressure switch. New front windscreen (specially made) and new seal. All window and door seals, Many new other seals and rubbers. Working period radio. Lucas spotlights, rear fog and reversing lights....'

Will we ever see a completed Mazzer resto on 'ere?

This one doesn't need a lot but it just doesn't do it for me. If I have another it will be a Ghibli or at least a 2.8 injection these carb versions are a bastard to get to run right and no where near as quick as the  2.8 £1250 to a shitter go on be the one to finish it, but it probably needs about £1k to get it on the road and reliable if you had to pay someone to do it.
