I know that car, it lives not too far from me, just the other side of Llanelli.  In fact it featured in my popular* spotting thread:

Jaguar MkIX by Skizzer, on Flickr

Handsome old bus - I could go and look at it if anyone wants, although I think we can already guess what needs doing.

One trip to Calais and back and it could pay for itself.

Traction control, for safety reasons you need that to be working properly on a non-turbo diesel Golf.

That MK 10 is exactly the same as my old one that I ran as a daily for years (FJU 99C). Sold it to my step-Dad who left it in a field for a few years....

Sherwood green is a brilliant colour.

Oh yes, my attempt at buying a car from this thread has not ended well. I bid a fair bit just to put it in my watch last so I'd get reminded before the auction ended. However, it still has days to go and the reserve is 'not met' and I can't afford it by a LONG way! :(

Boo hiss.

The shelf underneath the dash needs reattaching?

Check out the sills on this muthafluffa.

My fat fucking eye has that done 85k. The wear on the seat and wheel suggest more than that.

Also, where on earth has that lived that the sills, arches and doors are rusting already?

ETA: Viewed the video in his advert "I bought this from an auction". Seals the deal in my mind.

Also the ad says "has a water leak" - which suggests to me a leaking radiator etc.... not that water is pissing into it and collecting in the passenger footwell, which is what is apparent if you view the video.

He's "spent £600 on the brakes" but wouldn't advise driving the car because the brakes are dodgy.....And traction control warning light, amongst 2 or 3 others on the dash.

What a fucking shed.

On closer inspection:

DING DING DING We have a winner!

No fucking way this hasn't been clocked.

Incidentally, I've noticed VW and Audi's of this era seem to rust far worse than the Skodas.

Were they putting all the underseal on the budget brands?!?

Most likely that's been living at the sea all it's life, but still that's a fucking gopping example of a Mk5 Golf.

Sills might be gone if some clown has jacked it on them rather than the jacking point behind.

That traction control error is the ABS pump that shits it's knickers on all those golfs. It's about 700 quid to fix.

I know the car. In the late 90s, when I lived in Dublin, the car belonged to a scrapyard owner.

It was up and running and in decent condition. He had a little shunt with it (easily repairable for someone who knows what he is doing) and took it off the road.

Since then, it went through a succession of owners, each of them doing his best in fucking it up more.

I've had a chat with the seller of this, but ultimately I cant justify it. He wants said he wants £2500 which sounds like a massive bargain.

When fitting a turbo engine a lot of folk take a long time adjusting front panels and inner wings to make sure the intercooler fits correctly and doesn't ruin the OEM look

Others, on the other hand don't bother.

I'm glad you cleared that up, I thought it had been fitted with a Baxi gas-fire and back-boiler
