My fun prediction: 'classic car' market will be on its arse this time next year. The winds of change are blowing, yadda yadda. Not sure how much impact it will have on our end of the market but start saving now if you want a cheap Bugatti etc

sounds interesting..... whats your theory?

I've been to a few 'high end' auctions so far this year and they were all a shambles. Cars on offer were of far worse quality than you'd expect, sales were WAY down, half full rooms of slow bidders, lots of nice cars not meeting reserves and general attitude of 'why bother?'

The few ultra big ticket items sold well, but when bread and butter stuff like XKs, E types, Astons etc start to stagnate there is bound to be a drop off in the market as a whole, as those are generally recognised as typical 'investor' fodder and hence a barometer for the rest of the market*

Thank Christ for that.  I don't mind certain old tin being worth a lot, my chances of owning a 1929 Bentley have always been slim.  But when the prices of more common stuff takes off at percentages that would shame a stockbroker, that's depressing.

Interesting Barrett, I've been wondering at what point the bubble will burst. Not that it will have any effect on me or what I can snap-up.

For fucks sake.. What a colossal piece of shit.

The mind boggling thing is that someone designed and built this, took a step back and thought "I've fucking cracked it with this one".

I don't think the ViewT was ever meant to be photographed from this angle.

I actually said "What the fuck?!" out loud when looking at that.

An N/A XUD with an auto box! The misery levels are staggering!

That GS belongs to somebody on here. It's absolutely lovely and I wish I had money for it. Must scratch the GS itch soon.

SPOT THE REPAIR COMPETITION

Study the photograph carefully. Somewhere on the car there has been a repair. Use your skill to mark the centre of the repair with a cross. You can place as many crosses as you like, but no more than 100 on one picture. The competitor who marks the spot closest to where our panel experts decide, in their opinion, where the repair is will win first prize of a wheel nut.

6 crosses: 1/-. 12 crosses: 1/6. 24 crosses: 2/6. Send photograph to Spot The Repair Competition Office, PO BOX 16, LONDON SW1A 1AA

Okay, it's time for you to take your Eleven Plus.

Question one: one of these words is not like the other three. Circle the word which doesn't belong.

You have failed your 11+. You will be transported to the local high school in this yellow school bus.

Which is green! Because it is electric. and broken.

I wonder what that cat's eating. Seller thinks the van has a faulty motor controller. A new one is included, but it's different so you'd better know your way around a wiring diagram.

It's got recent batteries so the bi... uh... how is the cat doing that? This is freaking me out, man.

Really? Classic Cars are seen as a great, safe way of keeping cash secure and a good investment. A classic isn't been made any more and only around in ever decreasing quantities.

It wasn't always.

Research the classic car price crash of 1990/91.

E-Type V12 roadster 1989 - £100000

E-Type V12 roadster 1992 - £20000

For 1990 E-type roadster substitute £60000 Mark 2 Escort or 911 today.

The market is/was awash with speculators looking for a home for their money and it has filtered down to relatively affordable low to medium market cars.

As soon as a couple of speculators catch a cold on a big ticket Ferrari/Aston or whatever, it will trickle down.

The results at the last few big ticket international auctions have been mediocre. Retromobile in particular, where the headline acts sold well, but the supporting cast struggled.

Prices are overdue an adjustment. If not this year, very soon.

PS

1992 Honda Prelude Auto for sale. Great investment potential. The price of these rare copper bottomed classic coupes is only heading one way. Get in now before prices rise further reducing the benefit to your pension pot.

Experts predict that the price of these useable sporting coupes is likely to at least double in the next two years following on the untimely death of great grandfather of the designer of the iconic and unique "overlapping" sunroof.

£4750. Finance available.

Here's a blast from the (near) past, my old Hiace, sold late in 2014:

Someone's splashed out on a new tailgate (complete with 2.4 stickers when it's a lowly 2.0) but other than that and a couple of drawers added to the the living area, it's just the same as when we had it. In hindsight, I think I did OK with the interior on a budget, opting for an anti Kath Kinston orange and brown theme, with sky blue carpet.

Only things different are the extra k's and the $1195 price increase; nearly 5 bags for a van I bought for $1800 in 2013 (not including interior tart up). You can't lose on these old crocks if you choose correctly. I really should do another.
