When we looked up the SVR online and saw the £25 day ticket and £4 parking we thought it was a bit steep but it's a cracker setup. The Scottish preserved railways are just as expensive but only offer about 20% of what you get at the SVR.

Myself and Mr @juular both agreed today that we should try and do more of the big preserved lines in England sooner rather than later.

This was fun. Have a photo dump.

It started rather wet. This is the queue on the M74 after we pulled off to take the back road.

Because water.

Had some issues with the 240's ignition, it really didn't like going through deep floodwater repeatedly and as such kept kangarooing. I think water was either pouring into the inner wing where the ignition coil and amplifier were, or the hall sensor on the distributor was wet. Regardless, it cleared up and we were on our way to Tea Bay for a Peh.

We cut down through the Peak District via Poynton and an art gallery that Mrs Juular likes to stop off at, because the artist loves all things mouse / rat.  We brought our boys with us for a photo shoot.

Stayed somewhere in the middle of the Peaks which was really nice.  The hotel had Netflix.

Headed south via Buxton.

Buxton has the best architecture.

And the best cafes.

We then met up with @davidfowler2000 and WomanDF2K and some of the midland massif for new year's eve dinner and drinks. It was nice to see you.

I got drunk and watched Family Guy through the bells.

The next day we went to the SVR. It was excellent.

Is that David Bowie back from the dead wearing a Boris wig? ENHANCE.

Some whistling fun on the way back. Unfortunately the front coach was full so we didn't get the full experience.

In Lancaster on the way back we spotted a new model of VW.

We then stayed a night in Holmrook on the Cumbrian coast as we'd never been there. It was nice.

The owner of the B&B told us to check out the 'Ratty Railway' (Ravenglass and Eskdale) but unfortunately it was shut.

This was all great fun and as @davidfowler2000says we will need to make a point of exploring more of the heritage railways of the south.  The SVR was a very serious and professional setup and the journey actually feels like a proper trip, rather than just a couple of short hops. I didn't begrudge the cost at all given how good it was.

Shame we didn't get to spend more time talking shite with the Midland Massif. We'll just have to do it again.
