Citroen turns 100, Porsche 70.

Porsche was 70 last year as they had a load of events to celebrate including running the 919 without restrictors to break the lap record at Nurburgring.

Which strikes me as odd, since the year 1948 has no significance in Porsche's history other than the 356 getting its type approval in Germany.

However, the company Porsche that still exists today was founded in 1949 after the political consolidation of West Germany.

Well Porsche were pretty convinced they were 70 last year as they had this plastered over the back of the ACO grandstand all last year.

80 years ago the "Anglia" nameplate was first affixed to a Ford.

Simultaneously the Germans did the same thing with the "Taunus" nameplate.

The Porsche thing reminds me of the MGB anniversary debate where they produced those green BGTs with 50th anniversary decals in 1975.   Except that the true beginning of the marque was in 1924.....

We can justifiably celebrate 60 years of the (Farina) Magnette MkIII, though, as well as the 70th birthday of the TD Midget, and far more significantly, 90 years of the original - M Type - Midget.

The Porsche 356 was road certified in Austria and Germany in 1948. Maybe they based their celebration on this last year.

The company is 70 this year, though, and this is celebrated as well.

These are 90 this year.

Now that's a real car & might well explain my need for a blower all these years.
