I've got one you can have. I'll bring it to the next meet. Or you can collect it. 0a36cacc1ff56f2e2cdf4c21d831cf96.jpg

Brought the Panda back out into the sunlight for a run round today.

It's been packed away in the gloom for nearly three weeks.

IMG_20200209_125544.thumb.jpg.6d97cb2d577237dd5d1c9852e67605ac.jpg

Very unsurprisingly it started up 1st turn and drove straight out.

IMG_20200229_120523.thumb.jpg.600b712731d1bd20c0b6fc8cea64abbd.jpg

Took it for a little spin round to cheer it up as even good cars don't really like to be sat still for a long time.

It flicked on the power steering light again (just as it did earlier in the thread when it was collected after sitting)

IMG_20200229_123334.thumb.jpg.9a8fbfd3333980bdd443af6ec229a49f.jpg

But after a 25 minute potter around, that popped back off. The word is that's they're just VERY sensitive to volt drops. Even with enough juice in the battery to start it 4 times in 5 mins after sitting in the garage, it still popped the light on.

It's such a nippy little thing to drive, but it's no good just sat in the garage 90% of the time, so it'll be sold.

Is that an old school Nokia car aerial? Never seen one in red and white before.

I'm not sure about the state of your mats, but I saw PP post over on the FB group that Autostyle have taken templates to make mats for these, which should be available in a week or so.

edit: I've just checked, and they are on the site already, but automatic only front mats by the look if it

Cheers fella.

I saw through the FB group that they were coming up. Mine are in great order though so no need for new ones for a good few thousand miles yet.

Update for those wondering how a mk1 Insight would do on 100% local driving, the results are in. This should be a reasonable indication of the WORST it would return. This tank has been mainly been 10 mile trips around the doors locally with no long runs out.

Computer reacons 58.1 mpg over 403 miles.

Not bad on 30 litres.

IMG_20200304_132135.thumb.jpg.1537e261b16cbbad283cfc14e8449980.jpg

Pen and paper maths (well, putting all the appropriate numbers into Fuelly) actually shows a slightly higher result.

Screenshot_20200304_163234.thumb.jpg.1dc735b5036dacd4756d48f35a61ba62.jpg

That's pretty impressive really.

Bonus night time shot at a local dealers.

So if anyone was wondering if driving an old Insight is actually economical under real world conditions, the answer for me has been a big YES.

It beats the Panda hands down on the mpg stakes (the 1.3 multijet is returning 51mpg on a similar tank of runs), it's also more comfortable (as long as you've only got one passenger) and it looks much cooler.

Still loving it.

Wait a minute, FUCK YEAH! Been off the forum for a few weeks so I missed this. I’ve got one too, silver CVT auto.

Mostly use mine commuting in shitty outer London traffic and get between 58 and 60mpg per tank, bit more in the summer when the air is warm. Averaged 76mpg over the 30k miles when I was doing the longer commute. Best I got on a 57 mile journey was 114mpg but the auto is worse on fuel than the manual so you should be able to clear 120mpg on a run. Lowest I’ve managed to get a tank is probably about 56mpg and that was all local journeys when the IMA battery was playing up. A knacked 12V battery will also hit your MPGs noticeably.

I would post something funny in the spirit of the thread, but I’m not funny any more.

You're still funny man.

(whispers behind hand) he was never funny (stops whispering behind hand)

Are you grid charging yours @jonny69 ?

How's it getting on with being laid up with the BIG VIRUS cockdown?

Getting a bit worried about mine sitting still. Think I'm gonna give mine a charge this week. Which will be interesting. Extension lead out of a window, through the garden, over a wall, across a footpath and into the car.

Boring boring mpg update.

Still on local 10 mile ish runs (before lockdown) and with adjusted driving style (more boost and coast where sensible) and the results are up a bit. Still less than half a tank in, but the numbers are up.

Still loving it.

Ye I'm charging it from time to time. I got my first ever IMA light about a month before Christmas so got myself a charger and made a lightbulb discharger. I did a 3x charge/discharge/charge cycle and I haven't had an IMA light since, and now just put it on an overnight charge if it starts doing positive or negative recals. If you want help with that, give me a shout because it's a pain in the arse to find the information on Insightcentral but you can restore a lot of the battery performance by doing that controlled discharge cycling.

I haven't charged it during the lockdown yet. Before I go back to work I'll probably give it a long saturation charge and gently cycle it down to 120V or so just to balance it back out. Only because the commute uses the IMA battery quite hard compared to rolling down to the supermarket.

Battery isn't happy though. Car did the discharge fully/recharge in motion procedure after a long uphill on ASSIST but only charged back up to half mast.

Will get the charger on come Friday. It's meant to be dry and bright.

I'm attempting a touch of the old INTERBOARD CROSS-POLLINATION to draw your bank holiday attention to the greatly exciting roffle taking place in the FOUR SAIL section via the link provided below:

Much more info and pics in relation to the car are available in this very thread. There is also a link in the Roffle thread that comes back to this thread so if you wish to just click round and round in circles until you become exhausted and infuriated, that would be fine. To avoid that, there is also the option to simply purchase two numbers immediately, then you could just spend the next couple of hours stroking a cat or burning incriminating doccuments.

Thanks to everyone that's already in, and HOWAY to everyone that needs a bit of lockdown roffle peril in your lives.

Fleet news:

The Insight continues to be all the car anyone would ever need and has been providing sterling service.

It hasn't even gotten any grumpier during the lockdown lay up.

An iconic two seater sprots car, pictured here with some daft Porsche.

With nothing much in need of fixing, I did a spot of preventive maintenance and gave the rubber seals a good Wurth-ing over.

Bring laid up hasn't bothered it one bit and it was a pleasure to blast around in for an hour.

As soon as lockdown weakens its grip a tad, it'll be off to its new owner.

It was the last spring.

2020.

The year of the murder hornets. The year where history ends. A fire had been seen burning unchecked across a continent. Blood spilled on the streets of major cities like a menstrual cycle. Acts of obscene violence, followed by protest, then counter protest, then further violence. We all argued about who was right.

The virus locked us in boxes so we could sweat and worry. We all drank.

The slogans guided our way.
