Sad they pulled Earls Court down....

Was Boris that gave the go ahead on that wasn’t it

I used to attend Infosec there every April

I went to one or two of the Seventies motor shows.   Those pics capture Earls Court perfectly - nylon carpets, birds in nighties, impossibly shiny cars and overpriced shit food outlets.   It was a mystical place to a 12 year old....

That Flickr album they've robbed them from is by no less than PakyanHunter!

Very cheeky indeed.

Good pics like, but it's actually easier to view them on Flickr directly.

Shit the bed, I want a time machine.

And a barn.

There's pretty much nothing there that I don't like - I'm still struggling as to which stand I'd visit first - Dodge to see the Charger? Chrysler to have poke around the Sunbeam Sport? Lambo, to stroke and gawp at the Miura?

Or BMW, to perve at the lovely ladies?

I drove past the Earls Court entrance on Saturday and can conform the building completely gone. I went to quite a few of the 60's Motor Shows - and got to say 'hello' to Sir William Lyons once,  I even saw the Pink Floyd in concert there in 1977. Happy memories. Excel in E. London is where it happens these days exhibitionwise. The old Olympia still survives tho. Still used.

It wasn't until the Mid 80s when I was about 7 or 8 I started going to Motor Shows, my ma and grandfather used to take me down on the train, meet my uncle who lived in Harrow and I would not leave until I'd got more brochures than we could collectively carry. It was a proper little adventure.

I obviously used to shun the prestige and sporty marques and pester the reps on stands like Peugeot and Vauxhall for all the pens, badges, stickers and bags they had.

I would seriously worry about anyone who wasn't turned on by these photos..
