Most boring road

When I went to get some Sigma bits off Mr B, the roads around his area were pretty dull - really straight and flat, usually no lights. Was an enjoyable trip back though, just me and the radio.

Sounds like the roads around here!

The M180 for me..But as Bigstraightsix says, it's only boring as I'm on it everyday when I'm working from Leeds. (Currently in Redcar, so Monday morn and Friday lunch time is when I'm on it)Even worse for dullness at the weekend though because there are no Dutch flower wagons or Willi Betz on it, just the odd car or two......:lol:Edit: Just realised that Motorways not allowed, after reading SL's spotted thread and pbottomley's original post. But, it is seriously THE WORST stretch of road that exists in the UK. As it's not a well travelled route, nobody really knows of it's shitness unless they are going to Scunthorpe or Grimsby

It's all about the stretch of road we have to drive every sodding day, for me the A38 in either direction of Plymouth is rather tedious, because I've driven so many times!, with its rolling Devon hills or the beauty of Cornwall. Honestly, the number of times I've stormed the fearsome Haldon hill just south of Exeter with no thought in mind other than only being 30 minutes from my front door, even with the panoramic vista across Dartmoor at the summit of the hill! But, for a real mind numbingly dull drive, the M4 between Bristol and Reading is my choice.......

Jesus yeah that bit by Dean Prior always gets me even though its up/down and with scenic views of Dartmoor as BigS says, gets interesting towards Plym though when it splits off into three lanes betweem Plympton and Lee Mill...but only because I gun it-diplomatic immunity etc etc being on Jersey plates=no speeding tickets :D Chudleigh is fucking boring too I find.

Quite right about the M4. M5 always seemed more bearable because the junctions are so much closer together. My trick with the M4 now is to 'mile out' each junction. Because most of them between Bristol and Reading are around 11 miles apart, I always look at my mileometer when passing, say, junction 18 and know 11 miles later I'll be at J17. Then if you keep eying the readout you'll know exactly how far to the next junction. The only exceptions (or respites) are the two Swindon turnoffs (5 miles) and J14 to J13 which is about eight. All sounds a bit nerdy I know but does seem to make the journey quicker! The trouble with the really lengthy stretches is you lose all concept of how long you've been going.

A41 Borehamwood to M25...............do we really all have to be here???

Do what?Maybe they are all as lost as you if you are trying to get to borehamwood on the A41.
dont think so :? A41 down through Watford and either on to the M25 , first turn off for Amersham......or Same road and turn right to go over to the back way to high Wycombe...........Sure thats the A41, I always found going anti clockwise it was quicker than A1 to M25 :)

The only consolation in driving the A41 through Watford is what I THINK is the cheapest fuel in Britain! As of this afternoon (2nd Aug) Shell and Sainsburys are doing unleaded and diesel at 99.9 per litre. I drive that way to & from work daily, then onto the M25 at junction 19 and through the roadworks to junction 16-God it's BORING but keeping under 50 mph (average speed cameras) is giving me 45 mpg-not bad!

The cheap fuel was another reason to go that way.and Costco :D cheap meal then on to work at Shepperton or Pinewood

Theres a new ASDA just opened in Glenrothes, and they have plonked their petrol station down beside the morrisons and shell ones that are already there... as a result they are all pegged at 99.9 which is good news for me! long may the price war continue.

The A46 from Leicester to Newark. The first 10 miles or so are ok as its dual carriageway, but from there onwards its mile after tedious mile of single carriageway with no opportunity to overtake. Although the road is stick straight (Roman Road), it constantly undulates, therefore making visibility of oncoming traffic negligable. After a while you just give up even trying to overtake. There are also quite a lot of lorries that use this route, therefore quite lengthy queues of traffic travelling at not much more than 40mph (in a 60mph zone) are not uncommon. I FUCKNG hate this road.

The A50 betwist the M6 at Stoke and the M1 just south of Derby.Quite useful for getting cross country but seems to take forever, is generally free of anything interesting and just utterly dull.

I used to use that quite a bit when doing Manchester/London trips as it is more interesting than sitting in M6 traffic jams around Brum (pre Toll road) Does take forever though.

It's the same at our local ASDA and Morrisons though last week, Morrisons had it down to 98.9 for a couple of days.

Having lived in Inverness for 10 years I found the A9 a fine road, so long as I drove it overnight when the moronic holiday makers etc were fast asleep with their teddy bears. The Ballinluig junction is now finished and the stupid scamera on the south bound section has gone. :D Mind you the Motor grill there is good. The A46 from Newark to Leicester is a complete f***k up but hope is at hand because they are finally starting the works to dual it all. :D:D Part of it has already been reduced to 40mph but that means having to speed up most mornings and evenings :D So give it another few years and the A46 should be fine so long as the liberal namby pambys don't get in and stick up scameras and 50mph limits everywhere :x

The A580 away from Liverpool, the further East you go, the more miserable it gets until you end up suicidal somewhere near Salford.

The A27

it's the main arterial road running across at least 3 counties from east to west across the south coast. Unfortunately it's just a dual carriageway...

Anything in the slow lane that holds you up traps you behind it because there'll be a long stream of rep mobiles in the outside pinning you to the inside lane meaning by the time you actually get the chance to overtake you can be several more miles down the road!

It's not a particularly boring road (unless you get stuck on it) it's just infuriating!

The amount of traffic using this route means it should really be 3 lanes to cope with the volume but nope it doesn't become 3 lanes until it merges with the A3 to become the M27 near Portsmouth.

The slightest incident has such a dramatic effect both on this route & all the surrounding smaller routes it's like meltdown every time there's an accident blocking one of the carriageways.

Miles of tailbacks on both sides of the road because the other side all slow down to gawp at whatever the incident is, all other routes gridlocked as people try to find alternative routes, the road system simply cannot cope & has no answer to the amount of people in the south east who commute along it.

The worst section without doubt is the Chichester bypass although I'm sure local people can name lots of different parts that cause them grief. The Chichester bypass is carved up into sections serviced by chaotic roundabouts which seem to attract flooding & the unbalanced amount of traffic approaching from different directions means the only fair way to operate it would be traffic lights for each direction....

Speaking as a shiter this section particularly annoys me because it takes me so long to build up speed that the sections between roundabouts aren't long enough & I'm having to slow down again for the next roundabout before I've really got going from the last one. It also means I have no hope whatsoever of staying ahead of any of the very few cars I managed to overtake before we hit the Chichester bypass

EDIT: A27 Fact: before resurfacing finally took place a few years ago it was rated the noisiest road in the country, real rough concrete. It's smooth tarmac now but now the stretch from Havant onwards (different council) which used to be quieter now seems noisy in comparison!

..Well they've already got SPECS up on the bit soon after the dual carriageway, and on the A52 - I'd be pretty surprised if they dont have some sport of camera.I too used to hate this road, but I dont think it's too bad now. It is depressing on a Friday evening when you can se the traffic queue miles ahead though.

Are these specs in addition to the pair that have been there for 5+ years? I'll have a look on the 17th when I have to endure that hell road again.

The A46 near Seagrave crossroads (Between Ratcliffe on the wreake and six hills-little chef area) has had 2 cameras put up recently so be carefull chaps.

No, I wasnt meaning they have new SPECS up, just referring to the ones already there. I've not been down that way for 2-3 months though so not sure what sort of progress is going on..I always look at that old RAF(?) base when I drive past, wondering if there's any shite in all those abandoned garages.. would love to have a sneeky look.

A421 from Kempston through to the M1 at J13. Always an utterly horrendous experience, jammed up 24-7 and all you have to look at is the piles of london's rubbish they fill the ground with all around there. It is at last being widened, but this makes it worse as the bits when the traffic DOES move are now restricted to an impossibly tedious 40mph.

Agreed, for a time I used to go from my parents to either Rugby or Oxford this way and its dull dull dull. Never had any bad jams luckily but its still a shite bit of road.I also nominate the A34 between M40 and M4 as being totally dull and liable to grind to a halt.
