Your next starter for ten.

Which mass manufacturer was the first to productionise non-metallic bumpers which could be called integral to the body shape?

BL Maestro?

Wouldn't the autoshite version have a jump-starter for ten?

Or bump start.

BL Maestro?

I would refer you to the film Brothers in Law (1957).

Those who have seen it will know that the answer to the questions "Who was the one who knew his way round an engine?" and "Who was the one who got off with the token crumpet at the end?" was "Nicholas Parsons."

The defence rests.

That's because he served his time at Drysdale's.

Haha! Yes, that was the car I was thinking of. The one where they ditched a brilliant gear change after year 1 for something much less efficient, whose face lifted replacement lasted just as long as the original. Both great cars.

Here's your next starter question, fingers on chokes teams.

Which Japanese car, first made in 1983 but launched in 1984, in UK spec had a top speed of 115mph and 0-60 in just under 9s, according to CAR? Bonus points for naming more than one.

And your first bonus question for five points, Shiters, what is this model's name generally understood to mean?

Which American car's engine did the same company re-engineer in 1974 to reduce exhaust emissions to below Federal limits, without the use of a catalytic converter?

Which car factory makes the most cars a year?

Nissan Silvia?

Name six car models of the '70s with inboard disc front brakes.

Bonus point for naming one car with inboard disc brakes front and rear. (Racing cars don't count)

You can, you just need to be doing about 30-40mph, so it's a struggle without a big hill.

Not really a mass manufacturer, but the Lotus Elan?

You've come close enough with the Civic, which just cracked the 9s barrier but wouldn't make 115mph. Which the CR-X would, at least in CAR's test. Are you going on to the bonus questions?

Not really a mass manufacturer, but the Lotus Elan?

Perhaps, but as you say not a mass maker.

It's widely known that the Beetle was the best selling car of all time but what was the second?.

It was a Chevrolet Impala Small Block 350.

Lada Riva?

I know the Toyota Corolla is the best selling car of all time if you take all generations into account at over 40 million and counting.

Second best seller is Ford Model T. Counting the Corolla as the same car from beginning to end is a bit iffy

The Fiat 124 so technically correct.Estimated 23 million Inc all derivatives.James May to blame if i'm wrong.

Correct. GM was struggling to meet Federal rules even with cats, Honda bought an Impala, modified the engine and returned it, requiring no cat to pass the emissions regs.

Hang on, the Fiat 124 isn’t the same as the Lada Riva. For a start, they’re made by different manufacturers

According to Wikipedia, the Lada Riva is the winner without taking the Fiat 124s (and other non-Lada variants) into account.

That's a fair point but Lada were making the 1200 under license when the 124 was still current (for quite a while) and it's the same shell albeit with a different nose on the Riva.

Your bonus questions for five, which other car's mechanical layout and structural design, from just over forty years previously did this model resemble?

Look at these pictures and name these two vehicles which never made it into production.

You can bump start an automatic car but only if it has a gearbox fitted with a rear (as well as a front) pump. So there :)

I seem to remember instructions  on how to bump start the mercedes autos of the 80s in the handbook?
