Don't know which is the posh parent but Alfa 164, peugeot 405 / 605 are definitely more PininFarina recycling.

 

Was there a prototype styling exercise for them?

There are some hints in the 1980 Ferrari Pinin and 1985 Peugeot Griffe 4 concepts
