Some grade A shite was styled after some quite stunning concept cars.

Examples:

1961 Cadillac Eldorado Jacqueline by Pininfarina

It spawned a plethora of more humble shite, not least the BMC "Farinas"

Pininfarina liked value for money from his old drawings!    There are Landcrab and Austin 3 litre cues at either end of Jacqueline.....

He was not the only one. There was a lot of official and inofficial "inspiration" going on. For example, the "New Look" 1955 Chevrolet styling clearly originated in the Ferrari factory. That Bill Mitchell had his staff carefully inspect a razor edge Limousine used by the hotel they stayed at in London and use the elements on the '63 Riviera is not just an urban legend either. It can be read in Chuck Jordan's autobiography.

Sometimes the styling ideas migrated upwards, too. When Ford's styling boss Elwood Engel visited the Cologne factory in the late Fifties, he carefully inspected and discussed a styling clay they had there for the Taunus Badewanne and he never made a secret out of using it as inspiration for his '61 Lincoln and Thunderbird.

The car was matter of factually named after her.

Obviously the Harrington Legionnaire influenced the lot of them.

It seems this thread could just be named" Look how brilliant Pininfarina was"post-17414-0-94884200-1541184302_thumb.jpegpost-17414-0-10888100-1541184330_thumb.jpegpost-17414-0-06538800-1541184343_thumb.jpeg

Can you imagine those replacing the Landcrab and Ado16 in the late 60's ?

They would have shared showroom space with the Morris 1000!

Peugeot 404 and the Morris Oxford. Not sure which came first but they had a resemblance.

BMC's use of that shape came first - in the Wolseley form of the 15/60.   October 1958.

Pug was 1960 debut.

But the Peugeot was designed first, for BMC. The brass rejected the shape so PF stodged it up a bit and sold the original, much better, shape to Peugeot...

Pininfarina designed the doors on the DeVille, then?  ADO17, again.

Did he do the Sherpa bumpers for it as well?

Cadillac Seville 'Bustle-back'. I believe Cadillac acknowledged the origins of the design.

They were both modelled after the 1955 Lancia Florida.

The true origin of the design is the Hooper Empress.

And like I mentioned earlier, it also inspired the stylists of the '63 - '65 Riv.
