So much for the festive spirit from the locals! Glad the room is ok in the end.

If they're off tomorrow too, do you get a bonus night there?

I've just been out for a cig and propped against the door of the room next to mine has appeared a bag of goodies with Frohe Weihnachten (merry Xmas) written on it. Like I say, I think I'm the only person here so it is probably for me, but I can't take it just in case there is someone next door.

If no-one is here to tell me to leave.....

Your nearly getting squished by a train reminds me of my cycling in Germany near-railsquish experience.

Panting and gasping up hill, I only noticed the huge steam locomotive at the last second before it made a shallow-angled crossing of my road. Not that far from Koblenz as it happens!

Enjoy that warm bed!

Happy Christmas Alex! Enjoy the brandy, kick back and chill out. Best wishes from Six-cylinder, me, Mr Cat and all the horses. Oh yes, Mr Toucan as well!

If it hasn't been taken by check-out time I'd assume it's yours.

Happy Christmas lad!

Even the county whose name cannot be mentioned? I don’t think The Reich has an equivalent.

It does. 'Altes Land'. Which is where we picked up my R16.

A useable sink!

Sadly Brexit irretrievably cancels the chance for these to ever arrive in the UK.

I’ve just remembered a small town East of Hamburg called Geesthacht. Some scary specimens can be found there.

The scary part is West of Hamburg, between the Elbe and the Weser rivers. It's been isolated for hundreds of years with no fresh blood influx whatsoever.

Hence the bumpkins there, with one eye in the middle of their foreheads, engage in indigenous rituals I don't wish to become part of.

It lacks Lincolnshire's witches, undead and general nutters claiming to have been abducted by aliens, but for the rest it's equally eerie and not less forbidding.

Excellent progress.

How much Euro do reckon to rinse thru a week on a trip such as this ?

Veddel is like the setting of a Cold War zombie movie.

Dystopia, yes, but not like Lincolnshire.

Speaking of which, our globepedaler has just crossed a very scary area, where cars have WW reg. I didn't say anything to avoid fearsomeness, but I bet he was cowed enough. Koblenz however is Germany's last hyper Germanness and Nazi stronghold. What's not to like?

Cuxhaven seemed okay as is Bremen. The scariest part of Germany could be the villages around Kassel and Neidenstein. They all look the same. Same pubs, same people, same Renault Meganes and battered Passats.

You gotta be fucking kidding me!

If this is seriously your concept of okay, then you are frightening me, too.

All country bumpkins look the same to me. It's not different here or there.

Kassel and Neidenstein are 300km apart with no similarities whatsoever, apart from both being within highly industrialised areas void of any bumchucks. Different regions, different breeds of people, different everything. You cannot compare either with Lincolnshire or the Altes Land West of Hamburg.

Statistically the letters WW should be a lot more frightening to Germans than to a Brit.

To Brits it just means a way to get rid of a shit car.

I was originally planning on using my tent for a couple of weeks at a time with a night's hostel stay in between, but so far I've been stopping more frequently than that which has skewed the cost a bit. Unfortunately the time of year has dictated that a bit. I'm not going to lie, the cold and wet so far hasn't been easy.

I reckon in better weather where I don't have to burn as many calories, get some warmth and dry, etc I could do it alright on around €20 per week.

I haven't dared have a count up of my money yet, but I know I've been spending too quickly and will have to reign it in.

Apologies, I meant Niedenstein. The Neidenstein near Heidelberg looks nice enough like most of Germany, still my favoured European country.

Like Bremen and Cuxhaven, both are culturally a million miles away from the awful horrors of the UK such as Wolverhampton, Market Rasen and almost the entire South East.

Germany might lack the total cultural collapse that has been social engineered south of The North in the UK,

but that doesn't excuse intellectual Sahel Zones like Bremen and Cuxhaven, or the Niederrhein, while I'm at it.

I seem to remember that a while ago someone suggested a go fund me account or sending money by paypal so that you could continue entertaining us and not die of hypothermia. I'm more than happy to put a few quid in.
