I've just bought a Volvo too!

So here is my latest purchase, and it's not a Peugeot 405.

It's a Volvo S60 2.4T automatic, a car I've always fancied, if I could find one cheap enough and close enough.  But more importantly I wanted the 2.4T 200bhp engine with auto as it appeared to be a good compromise between the T5 and the 2.0 Turbo which is apparently a bit underpowered.  This one turned up very locally, and with a sunroof which is a huge bonus (shame about the leather trim).  Basically it's cheap enough that if it goes pop in the next few months it's not the end of the world.

First impressions,

Good:

Amazing performance, goes like the clappers.  Feels more like a lusty, but very torquey 6 cylinder, a lovely engine

Brilliant seats (I know this as I've sat in one before)

Surprisingly good steering/handling

Delight that everything works (cruise/air con. etc)

One of the best stereos I've heard

Feels really big after the 405, but quite nimble round the bends

Not so good:

Ride a little bit crashy as I anticipated especially on its 17" rims

Not an awful lot quieter than the 405 on the motorway, fair bit of wind noise

There may already be an issue unfortunately, engine diagnostic light (or 'emmissions' warning light) came on, and won't go out, after I gave it a right blast this afternoon.  Don't know how serious this could be in a Volvo - I know it regularly comes on and off in some of the 405s I've had and I completely ignore it, never seems to affect them.

I'll see how I get on with it.  Strangely enough the much older 405 will still be the daily hack, and this newer car will be the fun occasional one - unless I like it so much I decide to make it a keeper!  If not I expect it will be offered up on the forum or roffled maybe, watch this space.

That is gorgeous, I love the interior as it happens.

Thats gorgeous. Great engine/spec/colour combo. I'm also partial to a sunroof :-D

Which instantly makes her much more interesting than my grandma who only ever talks about bingo and funerals

Stunning colour.  They put on an emissions warning if you look at them funny, I wouldn't worry at all if it didn't drop into limp dick mode.

If the light turns out to be catalyst below spec, ie it’s the secondary landa probe saying the cat isn’t working as well as it should, you can buy cheap spacers from eBay that stop this happening.

Very nice!

I recon these offer fantastic value for money these days and still look pretty expensive and new (To my eyes at least)

Only the second day but most of this car I love.  The engine is an absolute peach, tons of power, torque and smooth as silk.  Seats are incredible, and the interior laid out so well.  It feels bigger than its 458 cm though!  And I'd love to know how much better it rides on 16" wheels with some higher profile tyres.

Had one of these as a rental many moons back - was lovely and smooth and decent. But felt a bit removed and distant. I preferred my mother in laws S reg estate tbh. Slower, heavier but distinctly shiter.
