Daewoo Matiz Xtra Cool. MOT FAILED - Scrapped

the whole sill moves if you pull it.

Then the MOT man is doing it rong. The wording in the MOT test manual is that it should be a fail if an area crumbles under firm thumb pressure. It's amazing just how rusty something can be and it still technically be a pass. He may well be right, that the welding is shit and there's galloping rot behind them, but if it doesn't actually crumble away, it's a pass.

That said, Heave the battery out, and any other bits that might sell well or be useful (I always pull out all the heavier copper cables under the bonnet.. £4.50 a kilo ramps up remarkably quickly, and it's very easy to get £100 worth of copper these days)

What type of rear axle does it have? I could do with one for a trailer project and if this is a really basic one being as narrow as it is might be ideal. You're not even that far from me..

You’ll need to burn the sheathing off to get best price for copper.

They won't generally allow burned copper these days for the best price, it has to be "dry bright wire" so I invested in a stripping tool a while back which can cope with anything from Telephone/networking cable (pointless) up to about 25mm2 stuff. Tool cost £15 off the bay of snot. I've weighed in about £250 of copper it has stripped so far. Very worthwhile.

If it's a car with the battery in the boot/under the back seat, the cable from the battery up to the starter motor alone can be worth £15-£20.

My thoughts too.  My MoT man wouldn't go pushing/ pulling though, he'd gently apply finger pressure and say 'don't touch that bit!'

Yeah, it's difficult to see, but they have just been welded over rot, so are rotten behind all that and the whole sill moves if you pull it.

guy that did the sills on my escort van years back just welded the new panels over the whole lot, looked cracking when I painted them with white paint.

You did all you could, dude. Fair play for giving it a chance; I've a sneaking admiration for these little inverted bathtubs, but I'd sooner live vicariously through DW's than own one myself...

In the meantime...

Seems somehow appropriate for such a happy-looking little thing to get a suitable commemoration.

For minis you could get special panels called oversells precisely to do that, problem is that the galloping rot continues hidden and a couple of years later it’s far far worse and goes from a simole job to a real ballache. I bet thousands of minis were scrapped due to them over the years.

Over here for both the CVRT and NCT, any 'structural welding', has to be done by a certed/qualified welder, Engineering firm or 'coach builders' they stuipulate, on a 'fail of vehicle's structure' or chassis', and the hand the customer a three page form with two pages to be filled in by the certed/qualified welder, Engineering firm or 'coachbuilders', describing the work undertaken and photos are also 'of great assistance when assessing the work undertaken' the say ...

The NCT centres slap diagonal 'DANGEROUS UNROADWORTHY!!' stickers acroos the windscreen n side windows with, presumably' as strong an adhesive, as they use to stick those underbelly tiles onto NASA's shuttle...

..anyways on their demands for name and address and accredition of the person/firm welding and a literary  description of work undertaken and 'maybe photos too', a lotta folk thinks its just a ruse to discourage 'JIM-BOB 90AMP ALDI GASSLESS MIG JOYSTICK'ER' or  weed out small backstreet owner operator welders who does it on the 'Black' and the tax man looses a 'slice'...

I pose this aul Matiz is a case to reaffirm that approach, however 'nanny state' it seems...
