AMC Rebel Posted September 28, 2018 Posted September 28, 2018 There will be no problem with my UK registered car or bikes, as they won't be out in Spain for long, maybe 3 months at most, and doesn't seem to be an issue from comments on this thread. Looks like riding a Spanish registered bike here will be though, at least without the faff of swapping licences. Maybe different after Brexit, maybe not, but as such important things such as trade deals, customs controls and border policing are still undecided, what's the chances any of this will be clearer? I know of several foreign registered vehicles that I've been seeing in the same places for years and years - there is pretty much zero enforcement here so I really don't think you'll get any bother. As for Brexit - as you say there more important things to worry about that need sorting first, but I used to see loads and loads of French German and Dutch cars at tourist spots in the 60s and 70s so it must've all been possible somehow - maybe folk who don't remember things pre EU don't remember that we've always had a lot of travel and trade with Europe - sure the EU made it simpler, but it's always been there.
castros_bro Posted September 28, 2018 Posted September 28, 2018 XT600 for sale? Have I already asked for details and forgotten? Thanks I'll go take a few pictures of it, Thing was running sweetly but previous owner had exhaust gasket leak so someone sheared off all 4 exhaust studs then tried drilling them with engine still in bike. Head need to come off and stud drilled and extracted properly. Then Timbuktu is that way >
DodgeRover Posted September 28, 2018 Posted September 28, 2018 Whilst not advocating this at all of course, a Kiwi I know chopped his UK licence in for a Kiwi one when he went home, but then applied for a replacement from the UK saying he'd "lost" his UK one - which worked fine. You can have both, I nearly got a kiwi one but I didn't as I was too tight to keep renewing.
Jerzy Woking Posted September 28, 2018 Author Posted September 28, 2018 I need to take a car to Spain for various reasons, hence I thought of buying a bike there. So the alternative of taking a van with one of my (known quantity) bikes seems to be the better one. Had a T4 before of the same vintage (but a 1.9 non turbo) which I drove down to Spain, but want something with a bit more "go". We have a couple of 08 plate Vito's at work, and they go really well - no rot that I can see but terribly flat paintwork, not that that matters to me.
Jazoli Posted September 28, 2018 Posted September 28, 2018 Bike in van sounds like a plan, it's what I did on my continual trips to help mother build guest house in Spain, and air con is a must in the van, it can hit 45 degrees at times and unless you like being sat in an oven slowly cooking it's worthwhile, Traffic Sport would be a good shout, a.c. as standard unlike most Vivaro' s. Jerzy Woking Posted September 29, 2018 Author Posted September 29, 2018 My brother has a Trafic Sport from his employer - quite like it. He says that a lot of them (and Vivaro's) suffer gearbox failure at around 125,000 miles (which his is on now) and its a £2k repair. Lots of broken ones on ebay are evidence of that. So if I go down the Trafic route, then it's low mileage/gearbox been replaced one. Dents and bumps are ok, but no rot. Later Trafic's seem to be rot free. There are a couple of 08 plate Vito's at work, one of which has nothing more than flat paint in a few area's (and loads of dents) but the other one has rot at the bottom of both rear doors and the off side sliding door. Both done around the same mileage (90,000) and drive ok. I see lots of Transits out there within my budget, but price/years don't seem to be consistent with 10 plate ones going for the same price as 04 plates. Confusing!
