Impending Super Saturday post-MOTs panic - thread redundant!

This Saturday I have two cars heading for MOT. However, despite assurances a fortnight ago that my "tame" tester would be back from holiday, I was informed that he's still on holiday so its going to another branch to be tested by someone else. Oh dear.

The Citroën ZX, that was tested back in July and failed, hopefully with its newly refurbished rear axle and rebuilt brakes, new brake pipe, and sorted brake pad warning light should pass - unless the rear brake imbalance is caused by the compensation valve, or that the front chassis leg is too crispy.

The 106...I don't know - the rear beam fitted last year could be shagged, the emissions could be shonky, the brakes could be pish, the oil leak from the head gasket too much.

This would leave me without a vehicle for commuting - if that 306HDI hadn't been scrapped that would have been ideal, but I'm on a ban from getting anything else that isn't vital, and until the cars are off the road, they're not vital...so...

...if push came to shove, and I was left without wheels, would anyone have a road-legal car they wouldn't mind lending me for a week or two...or direct me to something near me that's cheap and subsequently roffle-able?

(I feel dreadful having to ask. :-( )

I don’t think you are local to me ( south coast) but I’ve a few spare Mk1 Punto you could borrow for a while.

All legal, natch.

Thank you Nigel, but you are correct with the distance thing - 260+ miles may be a bit too far, even for me. It's not so much the distance as the time it would take - 6 or so hours each way!

I'm thinking that it may just be best if I hire a car for a week.

On the other hand - does anyone know if Shimano SPD pedals fit a pedal-n-pop moped? Asking for a friend ;-).

If the moped uses 5/8" threads for the pedals, like most bikes, then yes.

The question is... why would you want to be clipped onto one of them?!

I'm not the lightest person but can chuck out about 500 watts for a minute or so, so total power- it may mitigate against struggling up hills with a fat lad on it...

Where are you?

Wetherby, West Yorkshire. I work in Leeds but not the city centre, so public transport isn't ideal. I also have a non-urgent doctor's appointment next week that I may have to cancel.

It's all moot if one of the cars passes, of course, but still...

You're not far from me, you can borrow my Golf, it's unlikely the roffle will have sold out by then!

I could probably get it as far as Sheffield for you, maybe even further, just pm me if you need it.

When I jacked up the front to do the brake pipe, I supported it on wooden blocks to spread the load. Nevertheless this exposed some crispyness. Tonight I attacked it with the ring end of a 13mm combination spanner.

Oh dear.

That'll be the side with the diesel pipes on it, so it's not going in for test tomorrow. :-(

Ps to clarify as to why I'm not welding through the night to get this sorted for tomorrow: I'm knackered, and our new neighbours (who are lovely and we want them to stay that way) have an 8-month-old daughter that is a light sleeper.

Thread now redundant - thank you all for the kind offers, but the little red 106 has only gone and passed.

Thank fuck for that!
