cort1977 Posted February 4, 2021 Posted February 4, 2021 Very worthwhile that I think. People aren't used to the old style lights and just don't see them. (Of course they should, but they don't). PhilA 1

(Of course they should, but they don't). Agreed, on a test run last night multiple cars behind me didn't come flying up in back when I signaled then braked to turn into a street. They're not massively bright but it's an improvement, for sure. A good test will be in the sunshine. Afternoon headed down the highway with the sun on the back of the car, in school traffic.. that's always a time where I look in my mirror and try to decide if I should abandon the turn and stamp my foot on the gas... PhilA Posted February 4, 2021 Author Posted February 4, 2021 A real world test today; the Cold Morning. Left to idle on choke (can you tell?) and the screen defrost heater on, it cleared the glass quite effectively. Picture when In that picture I had arrived back from getting McMuffin and coffee, driver's window was down for the whole way so didn't defrost. Lights are evidently bright enough because cars behind backed off when I put my indicators on, even with the sun to the back of me. Phil RayMK, LightBulbFun, Skizzer and 5 others 7 1

PhilA Posted February 8, 2021 Author Posted February 8, 2021 Sunset was pretty tonight so I went out and finished the roll of film. I'll send that roll off for development. Radiator really needs taking off and repairing again (my first repair held, this is a new fracture). Phil RayMK, LightBulbFun, Crackers and 7 others 10
PhilA Posted February 8, 2021 Author Posted February 8, 2021 New LED indicator bulbs arrived. Phil eddyramrod, Coprolalia, JeeExEll and 3 others 6
PhilA Posted February 9, 2021 Author Posted February 9, 2021 Failure followed success. The white ones are too wide and the other one are stamped 120v Awesome LightBulbFun 1
PhilA Posted February 9, 2021 Author Posted February 9, 2021 Took a hacksaw to the white ones. Now they fit. 120v ones found a home in the sewing machine. 12v versions ordered. Spare white bulbs fitted to Renault. Phil somewhatfoolish and mercedade 2
Andyrew Posted February 9, 2021 Posted February 9, 2021 Im sure ive said it before but this is a fantastic thread and beautiful car. Id comment more but you seem to execute your repairs and modifications to such a neat standard , that theres nothing that needs adding! PhilA, eddyramrod, Joey spud and 1 other 4
PhilA Posted February 11, 2021 Author Posted February 11, 2021 Something missing from the front of the car tonight. There it is, on my newly brightly lit workbench. Heavy damn thing particularly with wet slick antifreeze in your hands and when it decides to get hung up on a fan blade on the way out. Good tools: Fire and a wire brush Old solder looks kinda ropey. I need a better brush, that one's all bent up. Cleaned up where the paint was coming off. Yup, that's a couple fractures too. I'll get that cleaned up and soldered and hopefully watertight again. PhilA Posted February 11, 2021 Author Posted February 11, 2021 My new LED bulbs arrived in the mail. Interior light with the original 14W filament bulb in. Fitted the new LED unit, which is made from clear silicone potting compound. A bit brighter and the gamut isn't strange enough you'd day it was an LED, especially not behind the old ivory color lens. Fitted the other one under the hood, which is a bit brighter than the regular bulb. Phil somewhatfoolish, mat_the_cat and Dan_ZTT 3
PhilA Posted February 12, 2021 Author Posted February 12, 2021 Rad-jee-aiter. Started to clean, flux and solder. Ain't tidy because I had to pick the top seam open like on the other side but it does at least pass the initial leak test. I'm going to check again tomorrow with some soapy water sprayed on it. Phil RayMK, LightBulbFun, JeeExEll and 1 other 4
PhilA Posted February 13, 2021 Author Posted February 13, 2021 Tonight, dish soap and water in a spray bottle. Apply air pressure, check for bubbles. Repair area that bubbles. Uglier but no more bubbles. That's going to dry overnight, I'll paint it up and get it fitted back in over the weekend. Phil RayMK, spartacus, puddlethumper and 7 others 10

PhilA Posted February 17, 2021 Author Posted February 17, 2021 Turn signal blinker relay arrived today. This one's good for LED bulbs only- most relays need at least one 21W incandescent bulb to trigger the blink correctly. Works nicely with LED's on both ends. somewhatfoolish Posted February 20, 2021 Posted February 20, 2021 You haven't mentioned it, but are you getting any of the bonkers weather that's hitting Texas?

Not half as bad as they've had it, no. It has been cold by the standards here (under 10c). All my plants have died (tropical plants) and I'm in the garage right now with my kerosene lantern on for a bit of heat. Phil
