I did that to a Primera diesel with a bust open thermostat, it ended up overheating due to the reduced air flow and the ragging it required to move.

420 miles per (60l?) tank is pretty good.

Handily, The cardboard can just be pulled out if it starts to get toasty.

 

On the 40 miles home, it didn't get to 90degrees running at 75mph indicated. I'll keep an eye out:)

 

70L tank, between 62- 65 L per fill. Mpg between 29 and 32.8 so far

Both sides got the same repair - seems to be holding ok.

Pipes to the Rad are too small.

 

As soon as I have the Clio MOT'd I can pull the Audi off for thermostat fitting.

A Renault 5 thermostat would probs fit down that top hose and would restore running temperature and mpgs to normal.

 

If you are arsed I can measure the circumference of the 75 top hose for comparison.

 

Thermostat is 15 quid posted.

Do these have a service position like later longitudinally engined Audis? On the likes of mine the whole front end can be moved forward a few inches to allow access without disturbing coolant and A/C lines.

 

You do need to remove the bumper first but someone kindly* helped with that.

Hah! The thermostat is under the inlet manifold, obscured by the alternator - ergo taking the number off would have no increase in working space:(

Sounds familiar. The bargain basement A4 I had a few years back needed a thermostat when I got it. It was relatively easy from underneath and the cuts and bruises heal relatively quickly when doused in antifreeze.

Conveniently* this tub blew it's other headlamp bulb last week - that's both dipped beams since I've owned it.

 

This one caused TEH FEAR! due to being on the same side as the battery.

 

I shouldn't have worried.

 

Rover 75 owners will rejoice at a vision of something called "Access".

 

Such a wonderful allows cut free rectification of errant lighting issues in a fast paced and efficient manner.

 

 

 

In other news, at the last Scotoshite, there were multiple voices (Tickman and Dome) suggesting this should be put forward for an MOT..

 

At the moment I know it needs a wheelbearing and likely 1/2 tyres, so I'm considering options.

 

It's fate will likely be decided when I try the Thermostat change..

Just over 6 years since I got this, I had the pleasure of collecting it from @Jim Bell (who had, on turn, collected it from the raffle vendor).

170miles later it has been dropped to it's new owner.
