NISSIN TURD BURD

What about this then?

I saw this old Bluey on retro-rides a few weeks ago. I have often fancied one and this one looked tidy, and it was only £150 so well into banger racing money, indeed the seller reckoned he was getting loads of banger boys knocking on his door. This may have been a guilty-based ploy, but it worked and I decided to 'save' it! I A'd it back to peterborough from Sheffield the week before last. On picking it up i was pleasantly surprised by how un messed-about it was, one owner + supplying dealer, lots of stickers backing up the old boy owner story. 90k on the clock, clean and very original. Anyway I dumped it in my works car park and forgot about it for a while. Then yesterday I decided i'd better do something with it before the security guard took an interest so i boshed it in for an MOT. To my surprise it passed first time! that NEVER happens to me. fired up I took it round to the old Kosovan Kar Wash for a £15 mini valet. Check it out!

Not bad eh? It runs beautifully, super smooth. Its only a 1.6 so not the fastest, but that doesnt matter. Everything works except the radio, which I think is the original Blaupunkt. it doesnt light up or do anything so i suspect a fuse has popped.

They oughta get more recognition these things I reckon, i think in terms of build quality they are probably as good as or better than any car anywhere, before or since. Even the most tired old knackered one always seems to carry on driving quietly and smoothly and the switches always seem to feel like new ones. They do nowt especially well, but just carry on doing what they do, indefinitley. I'm not surprised the banger lads love em.

Anyway I'm not sure what i'm gonna do with it now, i havent really got an application for it! My Pony is supposed to be being repatriated to the museum in a few weeks so I could swap the insurance onto this and use it. But really, I could do with having less cars and this is at least in a reasonably saleable condition. Anyone fancy taking it on? Id really have to ask about £400 for it, which if i get, I will have made enough to take Ms_Bol out for a nice meal somewhere and get a taxi home, but i'm sure no-one will begrudge me that.

Posted

That's smart - particularly for £150!Is the blue Montego estate in the background another steed in the Bollox stable?Or is the shitefever catching at your place of work?

Posted

Nice one Mr B, looks like a borderline Doctor patient to me. :)

Posted

That Monty is nowt to do with me, its defo 'abandoned' though, never moves! Its a turbo diesel and a bit crispy-looking round the edges.

Posted

It might be of use to me, got to find out about something else first. Does the price include tax? These are indeed a very overlooked car, I was impressed with my saloon.

Posted

No tax i'm afraid! Unless you are happy with a colour photocopy of the one out my truck, which is what its sporting at the moment. :)

OMGZ U R TEH NU DOCTOR.Seriously though - that looks lovely. I owned a bodged diesel one of these a few years ago, and it was a great car! Handled like a bag of crap though.

I can't give you £400, but I could sort out the meal and taxi home combo. Does she like Italian food?

FUN FACT: In Japan these aren't actually a Bluebird, they're a T12 Auster, the sequel to the T11 Stanza/Auster/Violet that I've got so there's some shite credentials right there.

I'll do a swap for my Renault 12, cash my way AND a tape of Bobby Crush live at the Winter Gardens Sidmouth

Photocopied tax disc? honestly your better off without one at all or the expired on in place, its fraud and a criminal offence rather than just a fine, I know as my uncle done just the same thing and got lawed for it, court case the lot.

Looks to me like a car to hang onto for a bit, I know you`ve a few cars about you but how many are as stress free as this one sounds? It`ll still be worth £400 in 3 months when you`ll have had some good use out of it and some time to fettle up the other stuff, why be in such a hurry to bid it good-day?

Sometimes, someone comes along and spouts such utter common sense that it can in no way be reasonably argued with. This is one of those such occasions. The car looks stunning and I would be tempted to keep it for some time.

Yeah well i would defo not use it on the road with this disc in, its on private land so should not be upsetting anyone.

Well I think you all know my love for the T12/T72 'Birds They are brilliant cars , I have 3 at the moment so underated the Hatch version is so practical Can a million banger racers and minicabs be wrong It's funny 'cos of being popular with bannger racers there are stock piles of these all across the county , all would have been crushed , so in an odd way it's kind of slowed down their demise it annoys me when people attack these and sunny's because they are are boring , (eg Mr Top Gear )what you mean they start EVERY day , you can run them , if you so wish on almost ZERO maintainance , the parts are cheap and easy to get , easy to work on , everything well laid out , comfy , powerful enough for modern driving , roomy ,and cheap as chips to buy what more do you want !

Posted

The thing I don't understand is how they can be considered so boring anyway - there's a turbo version, even the non-turbo 2.0 is surely going to be quick enough. Fair enough a 1.6 is hardly going to be a ball of fire but neither is the equivalent Cavalier/Escort 1.6. Morons.

Posted

I reckon that provided you keep one slapped full of Waxoyl to keep the rot at bay (I mean the youngest one of these is 19 years old now), the T12/T72 is pretty much the toughest, most reliable motor you can own and run for absolute peanuts. The insurance groups for the 1.6/1.8 are super-low (group 5 I think) as well.POG! Why not sack off your Beemer and buy Bollox's Bluey instead, then laugh all the way to the bank/golf course?

Posted

I've had a few Blueys and rate them highly. True, they don't really excell at anything other than their awesome reliability but they are such a good all round competent car and very well made. I've had a 1.8GS, a 1.8 auto which was a bit slow and a turbo. I'd love another turbo. Much quieter than a normal Bluey and better handling too. Early ones are better lookers IMO, especially saloons although they are far less practical than hatchbacks. A mate of mine of flogging a tidy auto saloon at the moment and... 300 notes of anyone is interested. If it's not gone by the end of the month I expect I'll end up with it...

I'd snap your hand off Mr_B if I didn't already have commitment to 3 other similar vehicles  I ran an F-reg 1.6 saloon for a while 10 years ago and it was brilliant. I've regretted selling it ever since because of the string of shit cars and head ruling heart purchases that followed it....

I'm not gonna bust a gut to flog this bluey, if no suitable candidate comes out the woodwork to take it on i shall probably do a few miles in it myself, it certainly seems a pleasant enough way to get about. Plus it actually seems like a bit of a minter, unlike the scabby dogs that i usually cruise about in.

still got this lying about, now its got 10 months MOT instead of 12 months. I had a few calls about it while I was on holiday but I fooked them all off due to the cost of using the phone abroad! Anyone fancy taking it on? I have swapped my Volvo insurance onto it with the intention of blezzing around in it myself, but I am now so stony broke that I could do with selling it. COme on got to be worth £400 or so, its a cracker.

Im really amazed no one has jumped on this yet?

Its lovely.

OMG now I sound so ghay.

My ex GF from around 12-13 years ago had a Bluebottle ZX Turbo in that shape. It was a pretty awful thing to drive mind, although I imagine the n/a version is pleasant enough. They don't do it for me though - they were just so unremarkable when new. Now an MG Montego..........

Now this you see really does float my boat - but its the usual excuses, too far, not enough monet (huge tree felling bill imminent) and so on. Even the colour - old giffer green is pleasing to the eye. i got as far as sending a PM, then binned it because I thought it was just too cheeky.Did you ever get the wireless working Mr Boll?eBay? Though I suppose on the bay there is a risk of it being bangered.
