GR8 PL8 M8
I might have mentioned this before, but my (Holden Commodore) ute is the subject of some DVLA fuckery as well. It was a HOLDEN UNKNOWN before I took ownership, and a VAUXHALL VXR8 afterwards. I was unable to tax it online so had to use a post office, after which it became a HOLDEN UNKNOWN again. I then put a private plate on it... the old reg now shows up as a VAUXHALL VXR8 and the new reg as a HOLDEN UNKNOWN, and the MOT history is split between the two. I'm quite amused by the whole thing and am looking forward to seeing what happens when I eventually take the private plate off it. lesapandre

I'm quite amused by the whole thing and am looking forward to seeing what happens when I eventually take the private plate off it. interesting did it alternate between the 2 on the V5c document itself, or was it just alternating on the DVSA's MOT checker? the reason I ask, is because the the MOT man can over-ride the automatic information that is initially displayed when a vehicle is pulled up on the system so this in itself can create discrepancies between what the the DVLA's checker says and what the MOT checker says you get this especially with imports since before they can even be registered with the DVLA, they have to go through an MOT, so when they get registered with the DVLA the details often differ between what the DVSA hold for that vehicle, vs what the DVLA hold for it and in your case it sounds like that issue was further exacerbated by the private plate you had put on it, which would of likely caused the DVSA's system to create a new record for it, using data from the DVLA hence "Holden Unknown" for that one, but Vauxhall for the other one lesapandre

It doesn’t bother me and infact I’ve forgotten about it. It’s just one of those things unfortunately. People still recognise your invacar as being an invacar, it says invacar on the badge. For the people who don’t know what it is when you’re out and about like at shows etc you just tell them it’s an invacar. I saw an amazing Express incarnation in Wales a few weeks ago Half Honda Express, half Raleigh Chopper It rode in with a very bone stock one junkyarddog, UltraWomble, wuvvum and 7 others

Theft of gov owned vehicles? How do you work that one out then? When the Invacars were recalled they were SOLD on a contract for scrap dealers to collect, those that didn't get destroyed, often, most likely as you probably already know got SOLD on, hence twice breaking the link of being owned by the government. So I think you need to modify your post and perhaps issue an apology to Invacar owners, not Invacar thieves! chadders and lesapandre 1
plasticvandan
Having been around these things for 25 years, and the original scrapping directives from 1997-2003,no, these vehicles were collected in to be scrapped, being property of the dhss, the repairer or scrap merchant being required to return the chassis plate as proof of the vehicle being scrapped,as they were not to be sold to the public.cars given to museums during this period having to sign a document stating the car was not to be used on the road.as time wore on and the dhss realised that many scrap merchants weren't fulfilling their obligations, they were collected directly by the dhss from users so they could be destroyed. Some people did have their cars taken off them having "acquired" them after the 2003 date. It was only a pleasure on behalf of the older incumbent of the invalid carriage register that effectively got a pardon for remaining cars to be re registered for the road. warren t claim, Jerzy Woking, chadders and 1 other 3

chadders
Maybe I'm looking at this a bit simplistically but if the law covered Invacars then wouldn't Invacares be excluded? So maybe the answer is for them to be registered as the latter, a process that already seems to have started.
