holbeck Posted July 31, 2018 Posted July 31, 2018 Rather than clog up the News24 any further, maybe the 405 should have it's own thread. It's the ex Bramz 405 turbo dizzle. Anyway it's a work in progress at the moment as it has around a months test and a few issues that need to be sorted before it becomes my daily / WBOD. First on the list was new second hand trimz, although that might be like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic if it goes down heavily in the MOT. Anyway as I mentioned in News24 it needs the passenger mirror replacing, this came from a breakers near Glastonbury so I popped up there on the pretence of climbing the Tor with my son. Knackered mirror New mirror. Tick. And with a low swear count. Next in the list is the lack of working electric windows. Fuse OK and 12v present so window relay is the next suspect. See that empty space on the right? well there should be a green relay there. Swapping out another one and the windows work almost normally, I suspect that relay has been missing a long time judging by the groan from the window motor the first time it was asked to work. Loosened up after a couple of goes though! Ebay can supply but I've got to go to my local motor factors anyway later to get a new front number plate made up. Small steps, but...... coalnotdole, Conrad D. Conelrad, mrbenn and 28 others 31
bezzabsa Posted July 31, 2018 Posted July 31, 2018 always liked the 405 body style... even better in estate flavour warren t claim and wrenchvolt 2
carlo Posted July 31, 2018 Posted July 31, 2018 When I sold these new we used to dread punters choosing this colour, Midnight Blue. It was the softest paint imaginable and often the cars came in from the factory with white edges where the paint hadn't caught properly. You could damage them just be leaning on it the wrong way. bramz7 Posted July 31, 2018 Posted July 31, 2018 Looking good. I did wonder why the relay was blank...maybe the OAP owner left the windows open or something and this was his way of stopping it. Still some of the best seats I've sat in, they've not aged at all really.
holbeck Posted July 31, 2018 Author Posted July 31, 2018 Looking good. I did wonder why the relay was blank...maybe the OAP owner left the windows open or something and this was his way of stopping it. Still some of the best seats I've sat in, they've not aged at all really. Who knows. If there is a problem I expect I'll find out! The local motor factors had nothing so I ended up buying 3 relays for £6 posted off ebay. egg 1

holbeck Posted August 1, 2018 Author Posted August 1, 2018 I have all sorts of 405 bits, inc tyres but I assume you are not local to Ludlow Sadly not local. I'm in Devon. Shitely anyone?
Lacquer Peel Posted August 1, 2018 Posted August 1, 2018 Peugeot/Citroen still use a 4x108 PCD on their smaller cars, just look for any 4 stud PSA steelies with tyres, except for ones off a C1/107 or Nemo/Bipper wrenchvolt and holbeck 2
chompy_snake Posted August 1, 2018 Posted August 1, 2018 If Berlingo steels fit I think there might be a full set (tyres possibly knacked) at the side of my flat that someone left there. If any use I can take pics
holbeck Posted August 1, 2018 Author Posted August 1, 2018 If Berlingo steels fit I think there might be a full set (tyres possibly knacked) at the side of my flat that someone left there. If any use I can take pics TBH it's the decent tyres that I'm after.
chompy_snake Posted August 1, 2018 Posted August 1, 2018 I shall have a gander when I go home as to tyre condition .... I know they are 14's and have round things resembling tyres on them haha holbeck 1
Lacquer Peel Posted August 2, 2018 Posted August 2, 2018 mk1 Berlingo steel wheels are a good shout, they're almost identical to 405 steel wheels and scrappies are full of them. holbeck 1
holbeck Posted August 21, 2018 Author Posted August 21, 2018 Since the last time I posted about this, the electric windows now work, as does the radio, although I've a new NOS aerial to replace the busted off one on the car that's yet to be fitted. The number plate has been changed for one that is not smashed As of today a new MOT has been achieved. 3 rusty brake pipes needed doing so not too bad in the end. Whilst at the garage, I decided not to piss about and got 2 new tyres as well. There's a couple of advisories that I'll sort out as and when but basically it's good to go. davehedgehog31, RobT, Junkman and 11 others 14
barrett Posted August 21, 2018 Posted August 21, 2018 That looks MARVELLOUS except for the number plate! What were you thinking, man?! holbeck, Junkman, oldcars and 1 other 4
Conrad D. Conelrad Posted August 21, 2018 Posted August 21, 2018 That looks MARVELLOUS except for the number plate! What were you thinking, man?! Super valuable numberplate for a publicly traded company importing very small Japanese cars. Bamboocarman, Cleon-Fonte, Lacquer Peel and 6 others 9
holbeck Posted August 21, 2018 Author Posted August 21, 2018 That looks MARVELLOUS except for the number plate! What were you thinking, man?! The font, or the EU ident?
The Reverend Bluejeans Posted August 21, 2018 Posted August 21, 2018 Looks like correct pre 2001 font to me.
barrett Posted August 21, 2018 Posted August 21, 2018 Yeah it's the EU thingy that winds me up I'm afraid! There is a really lovely BX in the CCC which has been fully restored and finished off with a pair of shitty EU plates! Absolutely boils my piss! pilninggas, oldcars, holbeck and 2 others 5
holbeck Posted August 31, 2018 Author Posted August 31, 2018 It must be the car's birthday. God knows how old the black shitty sludge oil that came out was. Lacquer Peel, 83C, RobT and 1 other 4
BorniteIdentity Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 These 405s really do have a lovely face. This looks great in NOTRED and NOTWHITE too. Well in! holbeck 1
Lacquer Peel Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 Does it feature a blue interior too? holbeck 1

God knows how old the black shitty sludge oil that came out was.How do you get on with the suction method of removing oil? I didn't get the lot out with mine and whipped the sump plug out, but may attempt it again in case I hadn't actually reached the bottom of the sump
holbeck Posted August 31, 2018 Author Posted August 31, 2018 I got about 4 and a bit litres out, so maybe not quite all. But, it was nice and easy. Apart from when I took the filter off and the spillage missed the cardboard I had laid down on the floor.
holbeck Posted August 31, 2018 Author Posted August 31, 2018 Does it feature a blue interior too? No it's got a pretty comfortable brown velour interior. TBH I think it's more grey than brown... but it is comfy. Junkman, johngarty, michael t and 2 others 5
