Cracking cars, easy to work on, cheap to buy and maintain and GLF for a 1400cc without dying or really making any fuss about being abused.

 

Also the best colour they came in this one.

 

I've a load of spares if someone on the forum buys it let me know and I can post them out to you in a giant box gratis. From memory - Lights front and back, filters, a radiator and several other bits.

Mother is very happy with the one I bought her so no, I don't need another!

 

In 18 years her old one has never gone wrong enough to cause a breakdown. It's needed exhaust, tyres brakes and an ignition lock, welding. Nothing else. Tough old motors

Rust and chains stretching is the only thing that kills these.

 

This has the ultra-reliable GA16DE engine which predates the QG engines - the ones that stretch their chains. These had a tough duplex chain drive and virtually never stretch or break them as long as they get regular oil changes. Mine was perfect at 150k miles, it only died due to a combination of rust (sills) the exhaust disintegrating completely and something else which I can't recall adding up to a £600 bill. We got a Yaris with a years ticket for £500.

 

If anyone wants something to get them from A to B in relative comfort, economically and without fuss this is it. Insurance was pretty reasonable too so might be good for a learner?

Showed this to someone at work looking for a cheap motor, local too. Hopefully she'll be in contact, good little motors.
