purplebargeken Posted April 3, 2018 Posted April 3, 2018 I have a lovely former well known AS MG ZT, V6 flavour and in possession of a virtually brand spanking new MOT. Belts done and previously very well cared for. Colour is Le Mans green IIRC. It's a lovely car but my isue is I always wonder what else is out there. It's an illness I think. Now, keeping this beastie is no hardship, I just want to make that clear. However, I do hanker after a BINI, it's an itch thing. Is there anything out there that people might consider swappage for? The car is located in a barn in Essex, it is SORNED. Also previous Cat D I think but I've never really ever given two fucks about 'that sort of thing', especially with cars from on here. Anything?.
eddyramrod Posted April 3, 2018 Posted April 3, 2018 Is that the one I had? Ex Chompy snake, BTB, Panhard 65? And you want a what????? DON'T DO IT! oldcars 1
eddyramrod Posted April 3, 2018 Posted April 3, 2018 That's true: of all people, I should! But a Bini? Are you ill?
purplebargeken Posted April 3, 2018 Author Posted April 3, 2018 I do fancy the idea of a BINI, it's a car on the revised liste de bucket along with an MX-5, beige 1.6 Beetle, Puma, Frontera, Metro, Panda, that kind of thing. Who knows?
purplebargeken Posted April 3, 2018 Author Posted April 3, 2018 Open to suggestions/offers. Wot ya got mister?
purplebargeken Posted April 4, 2018 Author Posted April 4, 2018 Golf, AX (yes, even a blue one), try me, you never know.
Cavcraft Posted April 4, 2018 Posted April 4, 2018 Whoa whoa whoa. You have an MG ZT and want a Puma? Pictures pls.
purplebargeken Posted April 4, 2018 Author Posted April 4, 2018 Did have some but can't find the buggers. It's a MG ZT, in green. Pictures would be easy to find you'd think, but no. No idea what I've done with the bloody things. Cavcraft 1
eddyramrod Posted April 4, 2018 Posted April 4, 2018 Just to be helpful, here it is when Phil_lihp brought it up as far as Manchester for me. purplebargeken, Aston Martin and Cavcraft 3
purplebargeken Posted April 4, 2018 Author Posted April 4, 2018 It wears a different reg now though. Forgotten how nice it looks.
CortinaDave Posted April 4, 2018 Posted April 4, 2018 ZTs are GR9. especially the V6. expensive cambelt changes are the biggest woe, but they seem to rarely snap anyway and really its a 100k so one swap in the cars lifetime job. Clutch is a biggie too. VIS motors are also made out of chocolate and are almost always knackered. Most dont notice when theyre broken but fixing them makes the car much more sprightly. I cant find anything under a grand i like more than these.
purplebargeken Posted April 4, 2018 Author Posted April 4, 2018 Belts were done not very long ago, so one less thing to stress over CortinaDave 1
clayts450 Posted April 4, 2018 Posted April 4, 2018 I parked next to a lovely grey one today in Bulwell - no phone so couldn't pap the lovely MG meets Rover juxtaposition. Had a good nose around inside and out, was in great condition if a little grubby. Maybe the old fudster in me though, but I think I'd still prefer a 75 Connie over a ZT. purplebargeken and oldcars 2
eddyramrod Posted April 4, 2018 Posted April 4, 2018 Maybe the old fudster in me though, but I think I'd still prefer a 75 Connie over a ZT.Now that I've had both, I have to agree, but the next one will definitely be automatic. I've had two manuals now and they're no fun. purplebargeken and clayts450 2
Cavcraft Posted April 4, 2018 Posted April 4, 2018 Aston Martin, purplebargeken, CortinaDave and 1 other 4
purplebargeken Posted April 4, 2018 Author Posted April 4, 2018 They are smart thingies. 1.7 right? Rusty arches appear to have been avoided on that one Cavcraft 1
purplebargeken Posted April 4, 2018 Author Posted April 4, 2018 Any window issues? Heater control woes? Does it piddle water on your head when raining and opening the hatchback lid? Cracking cars.
Cavcraft Posted April 4, 2018 Posted April 4, 2018 I don't think I have any interior shots to hand, soz. The arches are rusting a bit, I think it'd be fair to say most Pumas are like that now
Split_Pin Posted April 4, 2018 Posted April 4, 2018 Theres a Rover specialist in Whitburn who will do KV6 belts for something like 250 labour and same again labour wise for a V6 clutch. I'm thinking (we shall see of course) that if someone works on these regularly they will know the labour-saving tricks that would have regular garages disassembling everything from the boot latch forwards to carry out major work. Just something to bear in mind is all. I do like the ZT, especially in that green or trophy blue but I also prefer my connoisseur. CortinaDave 1
purplebargeken Posted April 4, 2018 Author Posted April 4, 2018 Connies are cool. Belts are done and dusted on this and the clutch is gooood.
Split_Pin Posted April 4, 2018 Posted April 4, 2018 Whats not to love about it in that case! Since I bought mine I have realised how thin on the ground 75s are becoming, but I cannot recall the last time I saw a ZT. Fast becoming a collectors piece especially a V6! purplebargeken 1
CortinaDave Posted April 5, 2018 Posted April 5, 2018 I have noticed they seem to be disappearing fast. I used to see 75's most days whereas now its maybe once a week, and ZT's only very occasionally. Shame as they are great cars. I guess the problem is just that same old story that they are of low value and any major job that comes up isn't viable. Shame! purplebargeken 1
purplebargeken Posted April 5, 2018 Author Posted April 5, 2018 Oh, now that does look good in the piccies. Maybe I just need to have a quick peek at the weekend. Just a teeny tiny peek. I mean what harm could it do. Maybe just sit in it for a little while, maybe just turn the engine on and just, you know, blip that throttle a bit. What possible harm could it do.
